Chapter 610: Chapter 612: Right and Wrong (5)
Qin Zhigu paused and watched as Lu Weixi slowly descended the stairs.
He had no clue how much of their conversation she had overheard. Perhaps, she heard nothing, or perhaps, she had heard it all.
But that did not change the fact that they were already separated and that she was married to Qin Zhiyou.
Just as Qin Zhigu was about to approach her, a call came through. After checking his phone, he saw that the call was from Cai Yiren.
It was true, Cai Yiren was now his girlfriend.
When he took out his phone, Lu Weixi also saw the name on his screen. Her expression remained unchanged, but her gaze briefly slid over to Qin Zhiyou, her hand reaching out to steady him. She furrowed her brows, “Why did you drink so much?”
“Wife, I’m happy,” Qin Zhiyou slurred his words, purposefully planting a kiss on her cheek. Seeing this, an impulse surged through Qin Zhigu, driving him nearly to madness.
Especially after finding out that Lu Weixi had no involvement with Qin Zhiyou that night, this sense of madness only increased.
Not only was he frustrated, but he was angry and overwhelmed with a sense of melancholy at having been tricked and deceived.
He did not want to face her. Seeing her with Qin Zhiyou always stirred an uncontrollable rage within him.
He had long prepared to study abroad with Lu Weixi. They had even sent their documents overseas and received their acceptance letters. But after the upheaval in the Bai family, even with her acceptance, Lu Weixi could not bear to leave the country, nor did she have the money to do so.
He couldn’t wait any longer for the American school term to start, which was a month away. The following day, he left for abroad, and stayed there for five years.
Throughout these five years, Qin Zhigu was vaguely aware of the manipulative tactics Qin Zhiyou and Cai Yiren used to tear them apart. But he still yearned to hear Lu Weixi’s side of the story.
—
A coffee shop near the hospital.
The waiter asked, “What would you like to drink?”
“She’ll have an orange juice and I’ll have a latte,” Qin Zhigu was the first to answer.
Lu Weixi shook her head, “I’ll have a black coffee.”
Qin Zhigu gave her a fleeting look, “Your tastes have changed a lot.”
“People’s tastes don’t necessarily stay the same.” The coffee arrived quickly and Lu Weixi picked up her cup and took a sip.
The bitter black coffee provided her with the clarity she needed. Life wasn’t always like orange juice, sour yet sweet. The bitterness of black coffee, that was the reality of this world.
The pair sat in silence at a window-side table until their coffee arrived.
“Whatever you want to ask, just ask,” she said evasively.
In the café, the music echoed. Qin Zhigu was sitting opposite her, stirring away the latte’s foam heart design into a mess. “When did you and Qin Zhiyou start seeing each other? I mean, when did you start contacting each other privately?”
Lu Weixi was slightly taken aback before she answered, “On the night of my 20th birthday. He kissed me and almost… then recorded it. He used it to threaten me.”
Although Qin Zhiyou had stolen her first kiss at the swimming pool, for the year that followed, he did not harass her or meet her privately. They only saw each other at gatherings or in nightclubs, him with a woman, her with Qin Zhigu.
Qin Zhigu was stunned. “Your 20th birthday? You mean, the night we set off fireworks?”
That was the same day Cai Yiren had confessed her feelings to him.
