“Buzz, buzz—”
Before she could catch her breath, the phone in her purse began ringing.
“Mr. Tang.”
“Xuan, good news, the plaintiff has voluntarily withdrawn the lawsuit. Chen Chuang claims that this was all a misunderstanding. If you don’t mind, he’s willing to personally invite you for a meal as an apology.” The voice on the other end of the call carried a not of relief.
Not having to go to court was indeed the best resolution.
“At least he has some self-awareness. If he actually caused a scene, who knows who’d be out of luck once his wife finds out about his behavior!” A hint of a lazy smile curled on the corner of Qin Youxuan’s mouth.
“That’s true, but if the conversation recorded on the tape were to be exposed,
Chen Chuang would certainly lose face. However, you too would be pushed by the media into the limelight. It would be doing harm without benefiting yourself. ”
Qin Youxuan leaned against the couch, contemplating the contents of the audio recording. She really didn’t want to let such a piece of scum off the hook so easily!
But considering her situation, she had no choice but to suck it up.
“Mr. Tang, I understand what you mean. I accept the settlement. But as for his meal, let him eat it by himself. I’m afraid I would end up spitting my food at him if I dined with someone of his character.’
“You, this stubborn temperament of yours is completely unlike your mother’s…” Tang Nian teased with a laugh, but he abruptly stopped halfway and cleared his throat, “Alright, I will handle the rest.”
“Thank you, Mr. Tang.” Qin Youxuan held her phone, her facial expression turning quite gloomy due to Tang Nian’s last statement.
Was there something wrong with being stubborn?
Was she supposed to be like her mother, always yielding and tolerating, until she could no longer stand the rumors and slanders, and was driven to commit suicide?
Qin Youxuan took a deep breath, suppressing the bitter taste welling up in her heart.
Just as she was about to toss her phone on the table, the screen lit up again.
It was an unknown number.
Qin Youxuan hesitated for a moment.
She had just returned to the country and changed her number, which she only received days ago. Aside from Ning Yanan and a few major shareholders of Qin Group, no one else knew this number.
How could she be receiving a call from an unknown number?
She hesitated before finally pressing the answer button.
“Six o’clock, Ying Shui Pavilion, VIP room one. Come by yourself.”
With a click, the call ended.
Qin Youxuan didn’t get to utter a single word. She couldn’t help but blurt out an expletive, “Freak!”
She threw the phone on the table, stood up from the couch, grabbed her robe, and went into the bathroom. She took a cold shower, then picked up a towel to dry her hair before leaving.
Just as she crawled into bed and reached for the blanket, she caught sight of the phone lying on the table out of the corner of her eye.
Something suddenly flashed through her mind. She abruptly sat up, rushed over to the table, picked up her phone, and dialed back the previous number.
The call connected.
It wasn’t a scam call.
Qin Youxuan’s heart skipped a beat.
After waiting for what seemed like forever, no one picked up the call.
Qin Youxuan exhaled a breath she had been holding in, reassuring herself that she must have gotten it wrong.
Just as she was about to end the call, someone picked up on the other end.
“Miss Qin, Mr. Jie is in a meeting and cannot answer the call. Is there anything you would like me to pass on to him? I am Mr. Jie’s special assistant, you can call me Yao.” The voice from the other end of the call was crisp and clear.
‘ Qin Youxuan was completely stunned, staring in disbelief at her phone screen, thinking she was hallucinating.
After what seemed like an eternity, she finally found her voice, “How does Dan Hanjie have my number?!”
