Volume 2 Chapter 16: Super Sour!

"I'm here, Guys!" Keith shouted when he entered the forest. 

"Po!" Mir and the rest of the babies snuggled up to him. Keith smiled as he patted their heads, "Aww, so cute."

"Anyways, I want you guys to taste this today! I brought something delicious for you to try." Keith quickly took out the giant tomato for all the Samui to see. And when they saw it, they were excited.

"I'm going to split it for you to try." Keith took one and used wind magic to slice it into thirds. Each piece landed in front of the Samui. Inti and the rest started to munch on it. And their eyes sparkled when they ate it! 

It was something they had never eaten before. Well, they did eat some tomatoes. But it was nothing compared to these!

While the three ate,

"Bo!" Keith turned around to see Shiro and the other adult Samuis staring at them.

"Don't worry. I prepared some for you guys as well." Keith wouldn't forget about them. He took some tomatoes and cucumbers out for them. 

And the Samui loved it! How could something be this good? Even the stickler Shiro was eating the food like it was the most delicious thing in the world!

"Pff!" But Keith wasn't focused on the adults. He looked at the tiny little snowballs, who each had a third. That alone was bigger than their face! But they still ate it. The juices from the tomatoes covered their faces.

Keith couldn't help but laugh. Well, there was one who didn't get any. 

"Keith." Even Fira felt it as she ate. 

"Bo!" Mir bit Keith's pants and tugged on it. His face said it all. No for me? The puppy dog face struck Keith's heart. But,

"Bo," Miyuki screamed at Mir. The child still needed to be punished. So, no treats for him. Keith ate the tomato. But Mir continued to keep giving him puppy eyes. 

Dammit! I'm sorry, Mir! Keith didn't wait as he finished his tomato without a thought! It was like the world shattered around Mir as he lay in defeat!

I'm sorry!

Keith got up from the ground and stated, "I'm going to go to the village." 

"Bo?" Really?

"Mmhmm, Mmhmm. Do you want to come with me?" Mir got up from the ground. Mir quickly climbed up Keith's body and onto his shoulders. With Shiro saying it was fine, Mir could go with him. Before they went to the village, Shiro shouted,

"Bo!"

"Oh, you saw the knights? Don't mind them. They're only collecting stones and wood for my resting area." Shiro told him there were some people who came to get stone and wood. It was easy to understand it was the knights. 

"You don't have to worry about it. The knights are not going to come near here." Keith told them not to overharvest the forest. 

"Bo!" Shiro said nothing more as he nibbled on his cucumber. 

And like that, they started to move. Keith looked up at Mir,

"Come on, Mir. Don't be mad."

"Bo."Mir looked away from Keith. It was pouting over not getting something to eat. 

"How about this? I will let you eat something good once your punishment is over."

"Bo." Mir was still angry. But Keith noticed the hesitation in his voice. 

"I promise it will be something delicious."

"Po!" That angry face quickly turned to a smile once he heard that. Keith sighed in relief as he turned to Fira, "Fira, is it alright for me to search for vegetables around your village?"

Wasn't this their food source? 

"It's fine. I asked my grandfather about this. The soup you gave them will last for weeks. He said we can take some fruits and veggies we want!"

"Alright, I will keep this in mind." Keith turned to Mir, "Mir, Aria, I will count on you to find the veggies and fruit." Mir and Aria's senses were better than his by a mile. 

"Po!" "HooHoo." The two nodded as they began their search. Keith was excited. And it didn't take long for them to find some things. 

"Ho!" Aria returned, and she brought something back.

"Oh! That looks like a lemon!" It was a little bit larger, but the appearance was the same. 

"Ahh! It's that food!" Fira pointed at it.

"You tasted it before?"

"Mmhmmm! It tastes super sour!" Fira's expression changed. It was like she went through something traumatic. 

Keith took a knife out and cut it into slices. He handed a piece to Aria and Fira. But Fira didn't touch it. I'll save that one for Mir. Keith and Aria took a bite. 

"Argh!" Keith screamed as he dropped to the ground. Aria roared out too! Why is it so sour?! Keith rolled around in agony. 

Fira could only watch.

"See! I told you it was bad!" Fira shouted. Keith and Aria continued to roll around for a few seconds before getting back up. 

"Strange. I feel somewhat refreshed." Keith moved his arms back and forth. His body felt somewhat lighter than before. Was this an after-effect of eating the lemon?

And he couldn't say the taste was bad per say. It was sour. But if he could do something about it, it would be good. Maybe if I dilute the juices? Keith was thinking about how this could work.
