Volume 3 Chapter 17: Pit

"There's a lot of people here," Keith noticed more than 100 people in this room. And it seemed this wasn't the end either. There were still a few minutes before the test started.

There are also different races here as well.

It wasn't only humans here. Elves, dwarves, beastmen, and other fantasy races were there. They were all in their groups, not wanting to be near each other.

"What will the test be?" Keith muttered. He was curious as to what the test was going to be.

It's different every year, so what does Grandpa Cadmus have cooking up? With so many people, he doubted they would give them a regular one.

While Keith was thinking about what to do, a podium appeared! All the students turned to see an elf standing on top of it. He had blond hair and green eyes, a common trait among elves.

"Hello, everyone! I will be the person to be administering the tests to you all." The elf shouted. But there was murmuring coming from everyone,

"Why is an elf doing it?"

"Ugh, they should have used a merman!"

"I hate elves,"

There was a lot of hate for the elves who said this. Keith blinked a few times. You guys do know he is the one administering the test, right?

"Silence!" The elf shouted, causing everyone to shut up. The pressure coming from his body caused some people to drop to the ground. Keith turned to Gabriel. Neither one was phased by his attack.

They were calm. And the two weren't alone. There were others who weren't phased by this.

"The first test will be a paired assessment. Pick someone to work with. You have 30 seconds." The elf stated.

Keith turned to Gabriel, and the latter nodded. Like that, it was the easiest pair-up ever.

Others quickly grouped up as well.

"Those who haven't found a partner, I shall group you up!" With a snap of a finger,

"What the?" Keith looked down and saw that his right arm was linked to chains with Gabriel's left side. It was a surprise.

"Why am I stuck with a dwarf?!"

"Ugh! I'm stuck with a fish!"

"What is this game?!"

The people who didn't have a partner were paired up with the closest person near them.

"Hey, our wristbands are showing a number," Gabriel stated. Keith looked down to see his wristband shined 84 while Gabriel was 85.

"The first test begins! You have two hours," The elf ignored what they were saying as he started the test.

"Eh?" What are we supposed to do?! They were chained together, and that was it?! No explanation? But there was no need to,

"!" Keith turned to Gabriel, "Jump!" Gabriel didn't hesitate as he quickly jumped from the ground!

"What's going on?!"

"Kya!"

"The ground is shaking!"

Some were not prepared for the entire ground to rupture! Everyone fell down the pit. Keith turned to Gabriel,

"Pull the chains as much as possible!"

"Gotcha," Gabriel nodded as he pulled his arm as much as possible. Without a thought later, a giant earth pillar formed, catching the chains. That stopped their fall.

"Phew," Keith sighed in relief,

"Good job, Keith." Gabriel took a big sigh as well. Keith's quick thinking got them out.

"Let's get up from this position first," Keith got on top of the earth pillar. He pulled Gabriel up.

"How far did we fall?" Keith looked up to see that they were far from the top.

"I think we can focus on that later. We have to get back up there during the time limit," Gabriel reminded him that time was ticking against them.

"You're right." People around them made their move. They couldn't be left behind. While he was thinking about how to move, they noticed how some people fell all the way down.

"Water?" Keith could hear multiple splashes.

"Those who dropped in the water fail!" A resounding sound stated.

"I see. We fall into the water, and we're done," Keith turned to Gabriel, "Gabriel, let me get us up for the beginning,"

"Are you sure?"

"Mmhmm. I think it's better if one of us saves our strength." Keith had a hunch there was something up. He looked around. There were some people using wind magic to fly up to the top!

But was it really that simple? That was why he wanted Gabriel to be at full power.

"I'm going to make earth stairs,"

"Mmhmm." Like that, the two started to move up.
