Volume 3 Chapter 21: Abnormals

While Keith and Gabriel rested, Cadmus and the other proctors graded the quizzes.

While they did this, one of them scoffed, "There are so many people who didn't even get past 250." He was surprised by the low scores these people got.

"What do you expect? We're weeding out the weak with this test," Another proctor stated. It was to be expected.

The subjects on each test were high-level. Only the best of the best would be able to pass it.

Weeding out the weak were the best words to describe it.

"We'll have all the students who are under 250. Let's focus on those who did well," Sohma suggested. There was no need to focus on them.

"There's someone interesting in the commoner section," One of the proctors stated.

"Hmm?"

"This person had gotten an 80% on the subjects. The tests are a little easier than the nobles. But she was able to get a high score." The proctor explained.

"Oh, we should watch out for her then." Others started to talk about some talented people in their group.

"Aidiun, you haven't said anything. What's the matter?" One of the proctors noticed the elf hadn't spoken up.

"There's a person who got a perfect score on the exam,"

"What?!" All the proctors stared at him.

"Are you joking?"

Everyone was shocked by his words. The exam for the noble people was next to impossible! For someone to ace it would be astonishing!

"He's not the only one in the group who did well. There are two who almost scored perfect as well. A few others scored 85 and above," Aidiun added. There were a couple of gems in his group.

"Who's the one with the perfect score?"

"The one with the perfect score is contestant 84. His name is Keith Freed,"

"Freed? Do you mean Marquis Freed?"

"The family who created the twirled mana wires?!" The Freed name had been spreading far and wide. And that was because of the twirled mana wires they invented! It was groundbreaking! But,

"Are you sure he didn't cheat?" One of the proctors commented. It was a little unbelievable he got a perfect score.

"He didn't cheat!" Cadmus scoffed.

"..." That caused the proctors to stare at him weirdly.

"Trust me," Cadmus had a goofy grin, which caused the proctors to be confused. Sohma explained,

"That person didn't cheat. He's that intelligent," Sohma and Cadmus went over to the Freed estate many times before. From time to time, Sohma would ask Keith some questions. And he would answer it perfectly.

Keith was really knowledgeable.

"I see," The proctors didn't question it. Sohma was the more serious type than Cadmus. He wasn't the type to lie about these things.

Sohma asked Aidiun, "Who are the other people who scored high?"

"The other one is the princess of the elven kingdom. The other one is from the Eginhard house."

"The princess of the elves and the child of the Eginhard house. There's some serious talent in your group," One of the proctors stated.

The proctors continued to discuss everything.

...

"Hah!" Keith swung his sword down. He was standing in the back of the inn, practicing with his sword. I need to warm up. He didn't know what kind of test was coming his way. But he knew he had to get his body ready. While he was doing that,

"You're up early," Gabriel came out from the back. Keith smiled, "I usually wake up early to train. If I don't, it doesn't sit well for me."

Gabriel laughed, "Haha, I'm the same way." Gabriel had his sword out as well.

"Keith, how about a little spar?" "I'm game," Keith raised his sword in the air. He was curious about him. This would be the second time he sparred with someone besides the knights at the estate or his siblings.

Gabriel swung his sword for a bit as he got ready.

"Let's go," Like that, the battle between the two started. Keith swung his sword at Gabriel's waist! But the latter jumped and dodged it. Keith quickly raised his sword up,

Cling! The two swords made contact with each other! Gabriel aimed for the back of his head.

Keith twirled his body, swinging wide.

I see. Keith realized it. Gabriel was much faster than him. But,

As Gabriel made a blow towards him, Keith pushed him back without a thought! I have more strength. Keith was stronger than him.

Gabriel continued his attack, trying to pierce him with it. But Keith continued to block it. I need a way to make him slow down.

"..."

Huh? Gabriel frowned as he saw how Keith was calm as he raised his sword in a standard stance. Gabriel didn't think much about it as he went in again!

But that was when Keith made his move!

"You lost!" Keith stated.
