He took his knife and sliced a piece. And what happened next made him smile. The bone was split in two. It was a clean cut without any force put in. Juices started to burst from the cut.
It had a light, brothy aroma. It was similar to oxtail soup.
Should I cook the bone more? With the bone like this, it was more like meat. However, it was still a bone; was this edible? I did have it in boiling water. The bones soaked in that water for quite some time as well.
Questions began to rise in Keith's mind, wondering how he should eat it. And he came with one choice. He decided to take a bite of the bone. Go with his gut; that was always the best choice.
Hmm?! This is delicious! It tasted like beef but a little more gamey. But it wasn't bad. It actually gave the meat a kick. However, what was really surprising was how much juice there was.
All the water that was soaked into the bone exploded forth. It absorbed all of the bone's flavor, creating a light broth.
"This is great!" Keith looked at the other bones.
I should soak them up as well. Wait a minute. What if I soak them in stock? He grew curious.
...
"Phew!" Herrick took a big sigh, "Taking a bath after a hard day's work is the best."
"Indeed." Gabriel nodded. He felt all the pain and exhaustion in his body gone.
"But it's better when we have milk," Jack added.
"Hmm?" This was the first time Herrick and Melor heard about this.
"I don't know. But Keith usually drinks milk after he takes a bath. And he always has a blissful face." Jack remembered the expression Keith had. And he tried; that was why he understood.
"I don't know why, but it's so perfect." This had become a staple after every bath.
"We have to try it!" Herrick and Melor rushed to the kitchen. But as they did that, Keith came out,
"Woah! Why are you guys running to the kitchen?"
"To get milk."
"...I see." Keith gave them a weird look. Never pegged them to say something like that, "I'm going to take a shower first. You guys can rest up before we start dinner." After finishing what he wanted, it was time for him to take a shower.
Keith waved at the other as he headed for the bathroom. As he did, he passed by Carolyn and the others. They head for the kitchen as well to get something to drink. However, they saw something strange.
"What are the two of you doing?" Faelyn questioned as she stared at Melor and Herrick. These two guys were staring at something.
"Keith made something new again."
"Eh?" Carolyn and the other's expression turned blank. He made something new? That's way too quick. He was only in the kitchen for half an hour.
"This thing wasn't here when we got here. I smell something really nice coming from it as well." There was a giant lid on the island. That was not there before they entered the bathroom.
Herrick's nose was a helpful tool. He could smell good food from a mile away. And there was something interesting coming from the lid.
Smack!
"Hey!" Herrick glared at Faelyn, "Why did you hit me?!" Faelyn smacked the back of his head.
"You were going to open it." One look, and she understood what Herrick was trying to do.
"You understand Keith placed it there because it's our dinner, right?"
"..."
"What do you think would happen if we eat it?" Everyone looked up at the ceiling. Eating it might cause Keith to explode again. Just the thought caused them to shiver!
"I will only take a tiny bit."
"Hey! If you're taking a tiny bite, so am I!" Jack added.
"And me too!" Melor chimed in.
"..." Alfia shook her head, "You guys need to show some restraints."
"Don't act so stuck up. I know you want it too." Herrick saw that girl's movements! She was definitely inching herself closer to the lid.
"Unlike you, I have patience. I just want to know how it smells."
"Oh, really?" Herrick raised his brow, "What if it's the most delicious thing Keith has ever cooked?"
"..." That caused Alfia to pause. The most delicious food Keith had created? Alfia's ears perked up.
"...One tiny bite isn't going to kill us."
"Princess!" Faelyn turned to Alfia. The temptation was too hard to resist!
