Chapter 7: Desert-Tailed Fox
"Do you need something?" Qiao Sang had to stop and ask.
"If you hadn't wasted so much time, I wouldn't have made this trip for nothing," The girl complained.
Qiao Sang frowned slightly and said, "I remember that when they called your number, you didn't go up yourself."
The girl became more agitated.
"If you hadn't gone up so quickly, I would’ve been the last one served! Do you know that if you had just sat down for two seconds, I would’ve made it?"
Qiao Sang was speechless.
Is something wrong with this kid?
Qiao Sang walked around her, preparing to leave. Although she was 15 years old now, mentally, she was an adult.
The girl in front of her was still a child in her eyes, wearing a high school uniform.
What’s the point of arguing with a brat like this? But before she could take more than a few steps, the girl quickly stepped in front of her again, blocking her path.
"Why are you leaving?"
Qiao Sang looked at her and calmly asked, "Are you trying to start a fight?"
If something can be settled with a fight, why bother with words?
Arguing with a brat doesn’t make much sense, but giving her a good beating might.
"What?" Now it was the girl’s turn to be stunned.
"If you want to fight, let’s take it outside. If not, get out of my way." Qiao Sang had slightly upturned phoenix eyes, which usually looked pleasant when she was calm.
But when she stared at someone without a hint of a smile, she could be quite intimidating.
The girl hesitated for a few seconds, glanced at Qiao Sang’s uniform, then looked at the Fire Fang Dog and the Fat Dove. Gritting her teeth, she agreed, "Fine, let’s fight!"
The two of them moved to a small open area behind the Hanggang Beastmaster Center.
The space was neither too big nor too small, with a few people scattered around, training their pet beasts.
Qiao Sang glanced around, surprised by the location, and asked, "Isn’t this place too public? Shouldn’t we find somewhere more secluded?"
The girl smirked.
"What? Are you scared?"
Qiao Sang raised an eyebrow.
"I was just trying to save you some face. But if you insist on doing it here, that’s fine."
"Come on!" The girl took a step to the side, readying herself.
Seeing the girl prepare, Qiao Sang placed the Fire Fang Dog off to the side.
Noticing this, the girl raised her hands and was about to form a seal when she suddenly saw a leg sweeping toward her face.
Instinctively, she ducked and covered her head, crouching to the ground.
A gust of wind whooshed over her head.
"What are you doing?!" Xu Linglan broke into a cold sweat.
She quickly got up and took two steps back, looking at the younger girl in front of her in disbelief.
Qiao Sang had just kicked at her face, and hard enough that if it had connected, Xu Linglan would have ended up with a concussion!
That was brutal!
Qiao Sang looked innocent. "Weren’t you the one who wanted to fight?"
Who said anything about that kind of fight?
Xu Linglan was speechless. She thought Qiao Sang was doing it on purpose, but she had no proof.
"Beastmasters fight with their beasts! Who actually fights themselves?" Xu Linglan shouted at Qiao Sang.
Qiao Sang paused, then said, "I'm not officially a Beastmaster yet."
Xu Linglan: "..."
That's right. She had heard that just a moment ago.
But that’s just a formal certification. You've already bonded with a pet beast, so you’re practically a Beastmaster already!
Without further argument, Xu Linglan quickly formed a seal. A white star array suddenly lit up on the ground, and a white figure appeared within it.
Seeing her own pet beast, Xu Linglan felt more confident.
"I’m a Beastmaster, so of course, I’ll fight like one. Or are you afraid to use your pet beast against mine?"
The vicious girl in front of her was clearly a novice Beastmaster.
There was no way the Fat Dove, a mid-level pet beast, could be hers. It had to be the not-yet-fully-grown Fire Fang Dog that she’d just bonded with.
Her White Sand Fox had just evolved into a Desert-Tailed Fox yesterday.
What could this girl possibly use to beat her?
The Desert-Tailed Fox, the evolved form of the White Sand Fox, is an extremely gentle creature.
Unlike the White Sand Fox, which was known only for its beautiful tail, the Desert-Tailed Fox’s tail was over two meters long—five times its body length—and was its main source of power.
As Qiao Sang stared at the amber-eyed, white-colored extraordinary creature in front of her, information about it automatically flashed through her mind. After all, she had just studied it yesterday.
The Desert-Tailed Fox was a mid-level pet beast, while the Fire Fang Dog was less than a month old and had no training.
She couldn't win.
Qiao Sang had already come to a conclusion.
Given the disparity in strength, she wouldn't send the Fire Fang Dog in for a one-sided beating.
"Fat Dove, you're up." Qiao Sang turned to the Fat Dove, who had been quietly standing by.
"Coo." The Fat Dove shook its wings and, without protest, moved to stand in front of the Desert-Tailed Fox.
Xu Linglan sneered. "That’s not even your pet beast, is it?"
Qiao Sang nodded without refuting her.
"Hah, whether it’s your beast or not, I'll still win." Xu Linglan didn’t stop her.
There’s no way someone else’s pet beast would obey her commands as well as her own.
Even if they were both mid-level pet beasts, Xu Linglan didn’t think she would lose.
"Desert-Tailed Fox, Quicksand!" Xu Linglan decided to strike first and gave the command.
"Desert."
The Desert-Tailed Fox let out a cry, its two-meter-long tail flickering and gradually glowing with an earthen hue.
"Fat Dove, fly up." Qiao Sang remained calm and composed.
The Fat Dove spread its wings and was just about to take off when a red blur suddenly shot across the field, crashing into the Desert-Tailed Fox and interrupting its Quicksand move before it could even be unleashed.
The Fat Dove forgot to take off, its chubby head full of confusion.
Wasn't it supposed to be my turn?
It was the Fire Fang Dog. Qiao Sang blinked in surprise at the red figure in front of her.
"Yap!"
"Yap yap!"
The Fire Fang Dog barked at Qiao Sang in frustration.
Qiao Sang could clearly sense the dog’s anger and frustration.
The Fire Fang Dog was extremely unhappy!
Wasn’t it the one bonded to her? Why let someone else fight in its place?
Qiao Sang felt the dog’s emotions clearly, and her throat tightened slightly as she was about to speak.
"How sneaky! You actually launched a sneak attack and want to fight two against one!" Xu Linglan shouted in fury.
Although her White Sand Fox had evolved into a Desert-Tailed Fox, her mental capacity had only developed to 7%, far from the second awakening needed to bond with a second pet beast.
The Desert-Tailed Fox was a mid-level pet beast, but so was the Fat Dove, and being a flying-type, it had an inherent advantage over the Desert-Tailed Fox.
And then there was the Fire Fang Dog. Though it was only a low-level pet beast, it was fire-type, which had strong offensive power.
If it was two against one, she would definitely be at a disadvantage!
Xu Linglan gritted her teeth, glaring at the younger girl in front of her.
Not only was this girl ruthless, but she was also sneaky!
Qiao Sang stood still for a couple of seconds, suddenly feeling as if a light bulb had gone off in her head.
Two against one?
Why hadn’t she thought of that earlier?
This is a fight, not a competition. Winning is what matters; there are no rules against it.
The Fire Fang Dog wanted to fight anyway, and this would be a good chance to gauge its abilities and test some of her theories.
Qiao Sang looked at the sulking little dog in front of her and smiled, "Fire Fang Dog, come here."
