Chapter 84: Ch-84 Edge Lord VS Viscount Kaust
'I can't beat that,' William thought, still lying on the floor, to not let the demon notice his recovered leg.
He had witnessed a portion of this demon's power just now, and it was obvious that it was far stronger than him, even if he was going all out and using everything he had in his arsenal.
But now the situation was even worse; he couldn't use spirit energy, and his mana levels were barely around half of their normal amount.
The last fight against Aron had done a real number on him, and he barely won, so asking him to somehow fight a demon who he knows nothing about and is a lot stronger than that aura master would be nothing but suicide.
Sure, William might sometimes do stupid things due to his pride and arrogance, but that does not mean he is suicidal.
He had no intention of sticking around and trying his luck, especially since being lucky wasn't exactly his thing.
The best course of action would be to use [Shadow Step] to teleport above ground from where he can use wind magic to fly away and inform the adventurers guild so that Michael or someone else could deal with this stray demon.
He was really curious about what a demon was doing here in the chamber of some random bandit leader.
But did he have the time to be concerned about that?
No, things like that could wait till later; for now, the only priority was surviving.
William was still enraged at not being able to save that poor girl or boy, who were probably controlled by some sort of mind-control magic.
In the end, he wasn't able to keep his promise to Reat, but in this situation, it doesn't matter.
Besides, if he ran away now, chances are Zunesha village wouldn't exist by the time he came back.
Despite this knowledge, one might wonder why he was not concerned about all the thousands of casualties that such a thing would bring.
The reason is simple: William isn't a hero of justice who puts others before himself.
He was a prideful, egotistical, and selfish scum who always put himself before others.
The only reason he tries to help wherever he can is for himself, as it makes his consciousness feel good by thinking he has done something good.
The same was true here: if this demon was weaker, or at least relative in strength to him, and his body wasn't in such a fucked-up state, he wouldn't mind lending a helping hand.
But that wasn't the case; even if he tried to fight, it would amount to nothing, and all he would accomplish was add one more casualty number to the casualty list, which he had no intention of doing.
And as for the offer, the demon was suggesting he didn't even consider the obvious slave contract; he would rather die than become a slave, and that too to a demon.
'Enough stalling time to get out of here's
However, before William could use
[Shadow Step] The same familiar voice from earlier called out to him.
<Are you really going to let an insect trample over you?
<You, William Verhein, the heir of the Verhein household, the child of mana itself, the energy that powers the very universe, the second-ever divine aspect user in history, and the man who will one day become a god,
<Letting a mere demon insult him and then running away with his tail between his legs
<I must say I'm disappointed>
'No, you're right. I can't just run away like this; I need to make that fucker pay' William replied inside his mind.
Strangely enough, he looked to be in sort of a trance-like state, with his eyes emitting a slight purple glow that sent shivers down one's spine.
<Now that's more like what I like to see.
<Now go make him pay after all; you're the chosen one after all.
After saying that, the voice inside his head went quiet, and William regained focus. Strangely enough, he didn't even remember the conversation he just had.
But now gone were thoughts of running away, and the only thing on his mind was making the demon who insulted him pay for insulting a god.

"Nah, fuck that," William said with his middle finger raised and pointed at the demon called Kaust.
As his words fell, his shadow expanded, and from it emerged all of his summons, ready to end the threat and protect their master.
Noir used his giant claws at its face; Golden Sting used its giant sting to pierce its chest; and Machak used its giant arm to punch it.
The hounds jumped at the malevolent being, trying to bite it down.
However, all of these attacks did nothing, as the demon simply used the black energy floating around him to form a shield and block all the attacks.
Kaust had a calm smile on his face as he spoke.
"You're a few thousand years too young to catch me by surprise, kid."
"But it's really a shame to have to get rid of you like this."
"Are you sure you don't want to reconsider?" He asked, hoping to change the boy's mind, but sadly, his offer fell on deaf ears.
"Nah, fuck you."
"Such a shame; well, have it your way then."
Before William could react to his statement, the demon grabbed Noir, the one closest to him, and used his strength to throw him leftward.
Noir couldn't even react to the attack, and once it felt the attack, it was too weak to try to resist it.
Noir was still falling when Kaust, without even looking, aimed his opened palm towards it, and on his palm, a ball of pure purplish black energy formed and fired towards Noir.
BOOOOMM!!
As the smoke generated from the attack cleared, there was no more bipedal grey-furred wolf; there was no more Noir.
Just like that, in just a few seconds, Kaust had killed William's strongest summon with zero difficulty.
Due to the influence of the voice inside his mind, William had arrogantly engaged in a fight he had no chance in, and now he was about to pay the price.
