Dragon's Wrath: The Cursed Returnee

Chapter 113 Berserker II

Although it was a pity since he wouldn't be able to see what Ivan could do, it couldn't be helped. Ethan began to concentrate as soon as the monsters finally destroyed the first watchtowers they had created. The air around Ethan changed, and almost everyone felt shivers when they saw him with his eyes closed.

"Hey, don't tell me…" Emily said, surprised when she imagined what Ethan was about to do.

"I kind of have been waiting to see that again," Ian smirked. "That crazy level of savagery and the Doomsday Sword… it will be a combination like no other."

Despite the fact that they weren't a warrior race, the Clannian people had some good instincts, and they noticed that something had changed about Ethan. To the point where Maerys even gave up on asking about what they should do to him since she felt like she would be split in half if she broke the concentration of someone like that. As for Anna, she didn't see the footage Ian had taken from the school. So, she had no idea what was going to happen. It was at that moment that Ethan recalled why Ivan looked so confident when he talked about him just before lending him the Doomsday Sword. Regardless, that didn't matter anymore. Ethan's world was becoming smaller and smaller… until, at some point, he could only see himself, his sword, and the enemies.

"Ah, this is madness," Emily facepalmed. "I can understand him doing that in a simulator, but here? Against those beasts? How can someone be so insane, considering that he doesn't use a single piece of armor?"

"That is not insanity, and that is confidence," Ian said and then laughed. "I guess those walk pretty close to each other."

Still, even Ian understood that something was different this time. Ethan was taking too much time to concentrate on the simulator, and he did that relatively fast. Although that was interesting, at the same time, it was nerve-wracking.

"HHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH"

Suddenly, Ethan roared and then jumped toward the base of the mountain. The shout had been so beastly that everyone pointed their weapons at him, and the sole exception had been Ivan. Even Emily and Ian thought something had possessed Ethan… something dark and evil.

"I get it now," Ian said with a serious expression while Ethan was running toward the army of monsters in the north. "That guy… he completely gave in to his inner demons."

"What?" Emily frowned.

"You know, people like us had to undergo some therapy after returning to Earth, right?" Ian said. "I didn't need it, and you probably didn't need it as well. Considering that Ethan also came to the school on the second day after his return, the higher-ups considered he was also fine, but they were wrong."

At first, Emily didn't quite understand it since she was a logical person. Still, when she saw Ethan clashing against the devourers' army and saw the beasts being split in two in droves, she began to grasp the meaning behind Ian's words.

"I don't know what he endured in the other world, but it was probably something harsh," Ian said. "Something that would normally crush the mind of an ordinary person. However, Ethan didn't let that happen. All the things he endured there, he stored inside his heart… in order to use like a fuel in moments like these… to become a complete incarnation of savagery and violence."

The situation was really weird; first, Ethan began to act like a mad beast, much worse than before, and now Ian was talking as if he was some kind of expert analytics. Regardless, it wasn't time to stop and think about such a thing. Still, much to Emily's surprise, everyone was looking at the army of devourers in the north and seeing a seeing teenager splitting the monsters like they were twigs. Even Ivan.

"For now, we will leave that side to him," Ivan declared. "Maerys and your people will take the monsters coming from the East, and Zeke and his allies will fight the enemies in the south. You two should focus on stopping the enemies from getting too close."

"Okay," Emily said.

"Yes, sir!" Ian nodded.

----- -----

It has been quite a while since Ethan felt that good. An excellent chance to let loose was rare. Although he could enter into that state at will, he could only maintain it while there were enemies nearby to fight. Back in the day, when he learned he could do that to control his feelings, he used it all the time, but at some point, he became so powerful that it wasn't needed anymore.

Ethan messed up. He could think a little in that state and even see his enemies in a blurred state. However, most things he would do were kind of automatic. So, thinking too much could slow his reaction time, and that happened. A devourer bit his left arm and made sure it wouldn't let go. Ethan got caught off-guard, and another devourer bit his left leg. One by one, a new monster attacked him until he was almost getting crushed by a massive pile of devourers.

"Explosive… Impact," Ethan muttered.

The pile of monsters moved to the side the moment his sword hit a devourer. Thanks to it, Ethan recovered the control over his body a little bit, and with a single swing of his sword, he beheaded the several devourers that were biting him. At the same time, the pain disappeared, and the wounds healed.

"This is good. With this sword, I can maintain this state for a very long time."

Although that kind of power-up was useful, it had some limitations. The fact that thinking slowed down his reactions was one of them. Another one was that Ethan couldn't use his skills or spells without calling their names… Ethan messed up again. Recalling those downsides made him lower his guard, and his left arm was bitten again. However, this time he reacted fast on time to grab the monster's jaw. When another devourer approached, Ethan used all his strength. He raised the beast with only his left arm, and in the end, he used a devourer to smash another devourer. That seemed pretty interesting, so Ethan repeated that until the first monster became a pile of unrecognizable flesh.
