Dragon's Wrath: The Cursed Returnee

Chapter 76 Boss Battle

After dealing with the fire golems, Ethan had to deal with ice golems. They were a bit more troublesome because their steps could freeze the ground beneath them, so in the blink of an eye, an area larger than a massive stadium had become a frozen field. As a warrior, Ethan needed to have a good footing. Otherwise, he wouldn't be able to use his full strength. Although he could also run by using the golem as stepping stones, half a second touching them was more than enough for Ethan's foot to get frozen and become completely numb.

"Although the creator of this device made sure the users wouldn't suffer much, they made sure to simulate perfectly some annoying effects."

When Ethan reached the next stage, his tension increased since that was the level that rank E students wouldn't be able to pass and since that was also the level that Ian said that he had to complete in a single instant to impress his father and gain his independence during the next mission. Now that Ethan thought about it wasn't that a pretty low-level requirement? Considering the number of students that were summoned heroes in America, their standards should be higher.

"Mmm… maybe Ian's father isn't planning to use only summoned heroes. Now that I think about it, few people would join such a dangerous expedition, given that they should be working for the government and attending this school while receiving a pretty good salary.'

Regardless, such thoughts disappeared from Ethan's mind when he saw a new specie of monster: A magma golem. Ethan couldn't help but frown, considering that that golem was like ten meters tall, and only one appeared.

"A mutant species, huh."

The Ethan of one year ago would call refer to such a creature as a boss monster. However, while that kind of thing exists in other worlds, they are even rarer than in games because the requirements for a creature to be born are rather complicated. For example, the most common way for a beast like that to appear is when a monster absorbs too much mana and grows stronger for several years. Usually, that would never happen since monsters were hunted almost to the point of extinction. In any case, a mutant species is much more powerful than they were in its previous form. So, Ethan couldn't help but raise his concentration to another level.

"The current me isn't capable of taking this creature in one instant… but it doesn't matter.'

Ethan had never faced a magma golem, so he couldn't help but admire the power of the creature when it hit the ground with both arms, and in just a few seconds, the battlefield became like the interior of the volcano. Still, Ethan just waited for the transformation to happen. He charged toward the beast, and using the skills he could to increase his attack, he tried to split the monster's head in half. Unfortunately, Ethan's full-powered strike only pierced the monster's head for a couple of centimeters. Unless he increases the power of his attacks at least by five times, Ethan won't be able to kill it.

Ethan attacked the monster's head for a few more seconds, but even though he attacked freely the same spot over and over, the wound he caused was only ten centimeters deep, and after that long, the monster had finished its work.

"Hehe, now this is more like it."

Several places around Ethan were spilling magma, and thanks to it, even though Ethan was evading any direct contact with it, his health was still decreasing at an alarming pace. If things continue like that, Ethan will suffer a game over in less than two minutes.

"Well, let's try this in the usual way first."

Ethan charged again, but the golem used both arms to protect itself this time. As if that wasn't enough, when Ethan got too close, several magma spears were shot from the arms of the monsters. Ethan put his bastard sword in front of him to block the attacks since he didn't want to lose the momentum. Still, he regretted it a little since the temperature of the sword increased quite fast and burned his hands. Still, only that much didn't stop him. In fast succession, Ethan attacked the top of the golem's head several times. His power was enough to make the creature tremble all over but not enough to prevent the beast from counterattacking.

Several spears of magma were shot from several parts of the monster, and from that distance, Ethan only managed to block a few. The others hit him in the left shoulder and on both of his legs. The impact had also been strong enough to make fly backward for several meters.

"Oops… that hurt a little," Ethan said while checking his health and noticing that he only had twenty percent left. "I suppose it can't be helped…"

Ethan couldn't get ahead of himself, but he managed to save another world, putting some restrictions on him thanks to his cursed power. He still had his cursed power but still was weak. Ethan himself was weak, so he couldn't super estimate his current strength. Although Ethan charged the same manner as before, things changed a little bit when the monster tried to attack him with its magma spears. Ethan pointed a single hand at the beast, and then a massive hand of ice appeared. The magic projectile flew in a straight line, and even though it lost a lot of power and speed, it managed to block all the magma spears. When the golem recognized that such a projectile was no longer a threat, the beast saw Ethan about to grab the monster's head.

"I think I need this, too," Ethan said. "But let's cool your head first."
