Era of Players: Death God

Chapter 127: Noah and Lilith 1

Sunlight, a gentle nudge, roused Noah from sleep. It danced across the room, highlighting the toned muscles that lay sprawled beneath the covers. The exhaustion of the previous day was evident, but a spark of determination flickered in his golden eyes. He knew there was no time to wallow.

First, a bath. He needed to wash away the physical grime of the caverns and the lingering weight of the choices he'd made. Slipping out of bed, he grabbed a change of clothes and made his way towards the bathroom.

The warm water soothed his aching muscles, offering a brief respite. As he soaked, his mind formulated a plan. He wouldn't let fatigue cloud his judgment. He needed to be sharp, to be relentless when he faced Arion and reported on his mission.

Emerging from the bath, Noah sighed. A quick check of his system's awakening progress showed that he would be over soon.

''Better prepare a breakfast before going to training.''

Skipping anything elaborate, Noah opted for a simple breakfast – something quick and energizing. Perhaps some fruit, toast, and strong coffee. Fuel for the battles to come, both physical and mental.

With his stomach settled and his mind clear, Noah turned his attention to training. He wouldn't underestimate the challenges that awaited him. He needed to be at his peak, his skills honed to a razor's edge.

He stepped out onto the training grounds, a familiar tension gripping him. Each swing of his sword, each practiced maneuver, was a silent vow. Never forget his goals and work harder towards them.

As the sun climbed higher in the sky, Noah pushed himself to his limits. Sweat beaded on his brow, his muscles screamed in protest, but he didn't relent. The rhythmic clang of steel echoed through the adjacent training room, a stark counterpoint to the grunts and focused determination emanating from within.

Noah, unaware of the silent battle raging just a wall away, reached the peak of his training session. Sweat dripped from his sculpted form, his muscles screaming in protest, but his golden eyes blazed with unwavering resolve.

Meanwhile, in the adjacent chamber, a whirlwind of motion unfolded. Lilith, her face an unreadable mask, moved with a preternatural speed against a training robot. Both wielded wooden swords, their movements a blur as they clashed in a dance of offense and defense.

The air crackled with the intensity of their training, the final strike a resounding boom that sent a tremor through the wall separating them.

For ten minutes, this silent duel raged on. Sparks flew from the clashing wooden blades, the clang of metal a relentless rhythm. Neither Lilith nor the training robot seemed to gain a clear advantage. She moved with an otherworldly grace, her attacks swift and precise. The robot, a marvel of engineering, mirrored her movements with uncanny speed and unwavering strength.

Finally, with a final, earth-shattering bang, the training robot faltered. Lilith, having exploited a subtle flaw in its programming, landed a decisive blow, disarming the machine. It deactivated with a hiss, its metallic limbs drooping limply.

Lilith stood there for a moment, panting slightly, the exertion barely registering on her stoic face. She raised a hand, wiping a bead of sweat from her brow, a single thought echoing in the quiet: stronger. She needed to be stronger, faster, more precise. The darkness that lurked beyond the city walls wouldn't be easily vanquished.

With a deep breath, she reactivated the training robot. The cycle would begin again, clang of steel against wood filling the air, another step in her relentless pursuit of mastery.

Two hours of relentless training left Noah drained but exhilarated. His muscles ached with a satisfying burn, a testament to the productive session. As he stretched, a small sense of accomplishment washed over him.

''Not bad but I need more practice to become familiar with my skills.'' Noah decided to leave.

Stepping out of the training grounds, he was about to head back to his room when a sound caught his attention. The rhythmic clang of steel from the adjacent chamber, a familiar yet unexpected sound. A single name rose in his mind: Lilith.

Curiosity piqued, Noah approached the training room. He hesitated for a moment, unsure if he should interrupt, but the memory of their childhood bond, the playful sparring sessions they used to share, nudged him forward. With a deep breath, he knocked on the door.

The clang of steel stopped abruptly, followed by a moment of silence. Then, the door creaked open, revealing Lilith. Her face, usually an unreadable mask, seemed surprised for a fleeting moment before settling back into its usual stoicism.

"Hello Lilith!" Noah greeted, a genuine smile warming his features.

Lilith's expression softened a fraction, a flicker of something akin to recognition lighting up her eyes.

"Hi, Noah!" she replied, her voice a low murmur.

An awkward silence threatened to descend, but Noah pressed on.

"Let's go grab something to eat," he suggested. He wasn't sure if Lilith would be receptive, but the memories of their shared childhood experiences urged him forward.

Lilith seemed to ponder this for a moment, a barely perceptible internal struggle flickering across her face. Then, to Noah's surprise, a hint of something resembling a smile tugged at the corners of her lips. It was a subtle change, but it momentarily illuminated her already captivating features, leaving Noah momentarily speechless.

A cough escaped him, shattering the unexpected moment.

"Yeah, okay," he stammered, trying to hide his sudden fluster.

"Let's go to the guild cafeteria."

Lilith simply nodded, her expression still cold, but the ghost of a smile lingered.

As they walked side by side towards the cafeteria, a comfortable silence settled between them.

The guild cafeteria buzzed with the energy of its patrons. Sunlight streamed through high windows, illuminating a vast hall filled with long, sturdy tables and mismatched chairs. The air hung heavy with the aroma of roasting meat and simmering stews, a symphony of culinary delights that assaulted the senses in the best way possible.

On the far wall, a massive stone hearth roared with life, flames licking at the iron cauldrons bubbling with hearty stews. A line snaked its way past a bustling serving counter, where burly cooks doled out portions of steaming food with practiced efficiency.

The clientele was a diverse mix – seasoned Players with weathered faces and booming laughs, young apprentices wide-eyed with wonder, and even a smattering of mages, their colorful robes adding a splash of vibrancy to the scene.

The clatter of silverware and the boisterous conversations created a lively atmosphere, a stark contrast to the quiet intensity of the training grounds. Despite the general chaos, pockets of camaraderie existed. A group of young Players huddled together, poring over a digital map, their faces etched with excitement.

Two grizzled veterans shared a tankard of ale, reminiscing about past battles, their laughter echoing through the hall.

Stepping into the bustling cafeteria, Noah and Lilith found themselves amidst a sea of activity. The cacophony of sounds - clattering dishes, boisterous conversations, the rhythmic sizzle of meat on the griddle - was a stark contrast to the quiet intensity of the training grounds.

Noah scanned the room, searching for an empty table. He spotted one tucked away in a corner, partially obscured by a massive potted fern. It offered a sliver of privacy, perfect for their tentative reconnection.

He gestured towards it with a nod. Lilith, seemingly content with the choice, followed him towards the table. They settled onto the rickety chairs, a comfortable silence descending between them.

Noah cleared his throat, the unfamiliar setting adding to his awkwardness.

"What would you like to eat?" he asked, hoping to break the ice.

Lilith, for once, seemed to hesitate. She typically moved with a decisive grace, but in this situation, she appeared unsure. Finally, she pointed towards a simple menu displayed on a nearby wall.

"The roasted chicken," she murmured, her voice barely a whisper.

Noah nodded in understanding. He knew she wasn't one for elaborate meals, opting for functionality over extravagance.

He opted for the same.

With their orders placed, they settled back into their comfortable silence. Noah observed Lilith from the corner of his eye. Her usual stoicism remained, but there was a subtle shift in her posture, a hint of relaxation in the way she held herself. This girl would make a great ally, she could be used and she would be the few he could trust.

He would observe, grow their relationship maybe go out with her, by making her emotionally attached to him he could make a full use of her.

'This idea is worth considering.' Noah silently thought.

As they waited for their food, a faint smile played on Noah's lips.

The arrival of their food was a welcome interruption to the comfortable silence. A steaming plate of roasted chicken, crispy skin glistening with golden brown juices, landed in front of Lilith. Noah's plate mirrored hers, accompanied by a generous helping of roasted vegetables colorful enough to rival a sunset.

The aroma of succulent roasted poultry instantly cut through the general scent of the cafeteria, a mouthwatering invitation that neither of them could resist. Lilith picked up her fork, her movements regaining their usual efficiency. Despite her stoic expression, a flicker of anticipation danced in her eyes.

Noah, mirroring her actions, dug into his own meal. The first bite was a revelation – the meat perfectly cooked, juicy and tender, the crispy skin adding a delightful textural contrast. The roasted vegetables, imbued with the smoky essence of the hearth, were a perfect complement.
