Chapter 18: I Choose You to Be My Woman!

The first thing that caught Bai Zhou’s eye was those long, straight legs, so perfect that words couldn’t do them justice.

No doubt about it!  

After all, Mu Qingqing was the original novel’s number one female lead! Someone who could live up to that title could hardly be lacking in any area. Her tight-fitting OL business attire perfectly accentuated Mu Qingqing’s figure.

When Bai Zhou saw her walking in, he couldn’t help but whistle softly.

To be honest, Bai Zhou admired this woman. She had just gone through such a terrifying ordeal the day before, and yet here she was, back to work, looking as radiant as ever. She truly deserved to be the woman who dared to stand up against a board full of shareholders all by herself.

Mu Qingqing’s high heels made a crisp sound as she stepped closer, finally sitting gracefully across from Bai Zhou, her hands smoothing out her skirt as if she were a dignified lady of a prestigious family.

Well, she was one, after all.

Bai Zhou didn’t say anything.

Mu Qingqing, however, spoke first: “Speak. What exactly is your goal?”

“Hm?” Mu Qingqing’s question caught Bai Zhou slightly off guard.

What goal could I possibly have? I just want to enjoy being a loyal “henchman” under Li Tai, bullying people with borrowed authority.

Of course, Bai Zhou wasn’t about to tell her that. Even if he did, Mu Qingqing wouldn’t believe him.

So, he simply smiled, shook his head, and spread his hands in a gesture that seemed to say, “I don’t know what you mean.”

Naturally, Mu Qingqing didn’t push the question any further. Instead, she poured herself some tea, took a sip, and said, “How much will it cost to get you to sell out Li Yonggang?”

Ah, so this is what Mu Qingqing really wanted to discuss, huh?  

Bai Zhou had already expected this question.

But would Bai Zhou betray his “young master”?

What a joke! Of course not!  

Smiling, he replied: “Miss Mu, don’t forget, I’m currently working for the Li family.”

“Heh!” Mu Qingqing’s laugh was filled with disbelief as she said, “If that’s the case, why did you let me go yesterday?”

Why did I let you go yesterday? If I hadn’t, nothing terrible would’ve happened to you, but I would’ve been the scapegoat, sent to my death!  

However, Bai Zhou wasn’t about to explain the entire plot to her.

Instead, he found a reasonable-sounding excuse and said, “My real boss is Mr. Li Tai, not Li Yonggang. Li Yonggang’s actions could cause trouble for my boss, so I had to intervene.”

With that, Bai Zhou took another sip of tea.

The room fell into silence.

Mu Qingqing stared intently at Bai Zhou, as if trying to decipher something from his expression.

Bai Zhou met her gaze without fear.

After all, Bai Zhou was a real person, not some character crafted for a novel. If Mu Qingqing could see through him that easily, he might as well end things right there.

The silence dragged on for quite some time.

Although Bai Zhou didn’t know how Mu Qingqing had managed to brush off Li Yonggang and come here to see him, he could imagine that Li Yonggang was probably on the verge of losing his patience by now.

Smiling mischievously, Bai Zhou looked at the stunning Mu Qingqing and said, “Miss Mu, I admit I’m fairly handsome, but if you keep staring at me like this, people might get the wrong idea.”

“Hm?” Mu Qingqing, who had been lost in thought, trying to figure out Bai Zhou’s motives, was suddenly jolted back to reality by his teasing remark.

Her face flushed slightly. She couldn’t deny that Bai Zhou was indeed handsome! In fact, if she weren’t so focused on battling the shareholders, she might have even found herself attracted to him.

She cleared her throat, took another sip of tea, and said, “Bai Zhou, come work for me.”

“Huh?”

Bai Zhou sat up straight, grinning: “I knew it! You’re after my body!”

Wh-What?!  

“What nonsense are you spouting?! That’s not what I meant!” Mu Qingqing, realizing how her words could be misinterpreted, felt embarrassed and even a bit shy.

Cough, cough … “What I meant was, I can offer you a salary. You name your price. Come work for me!”

Letting Bai Zhou set the conditions! That was an extremely generous offer.

He could ask for any amount of money; a dream deal for most people.

However … Bai Zhou’s smile turned playful as he said, “I get to choose the conditions? Well then, Miss Mu, what if I choose for you to be my woman?”

“Shut up!!” Mu Qingqing’s face flushed even redder, but this time, it wasn’t out of shyness—it was out of anger!

Her sharp voice interrupted Bai Zhou’s teasing words.

Bai Zhou wasn’t surprised by her reaction; this was exactly in line with her character from the original novel!

Mu Qingqing took a moment to compose herself, glaring at Bai Zhou.

From his expression, she could tell that Bai Zhou had said it on purpose, just to get a reaction from her.

In a serious tone, she said, “Please, Mr. Bai, behave yourself. We’re discussing serious matters here.”

Smack! Bai Zhou lightly slapped the table in front of him, his expression becoming equally serious as he looked at Mu Qingqing and said, “I am talking about something serious!”

“Wh-What?!”
