Chapter 459: Fake Death
Chapter 459: Fake Death
The foundation of magic is a mysterious and complex structure. No one knows where it actually is from nor does anyone knows how it came to be. How the first Adventurers created the Adventurer system, how they could read an individual's stats into their system, and many more things.
But one thing was absolute when it comes to magic.
The strongest reigns over all the others.
Everyone held their breaths in shock, seeing the demon who was the strongest person in their group lose his arms in a blink of an eye. Irus himself had his face frozen in disbelief.
"You talk too much, but you're nothing," DuDu said. He raised his hand and slammed it right into Irus's back, shooting the demon straight to the ground with in a giant crash.
"Irus!" Elliot yelled. He immediately went over to the crash site, his eyes widen when he saw Irus there, lifeless. "Irus, no!"
"If you'll excuse me," DuDu said. "I have maidens to absorb."
"Absorb?" Lady Hao asked. "What do you mean absorb?"
"The maidens are the key to reach Absolute," DuDu replied. "If I can have all of them, I will be at the level of both the Almighty and the Forsaken."
"No!" Lady Hao yelled. "Mere human beings like us should never try and ascend to their level."
"Ah," DuDu clicked his tongue. "That is where you're incredibly wrong. I'm not a mere human being like you. I am something more."
Without any more words, DuDu vanished into thin air. He was carrying Licht with him as he disappeared along with all the traces of his presence. It felt like he wasn't even there at all.
"Irus, no!" Allen cried. He kneeled beside the demon and placed Irus's head on his lap. "Why did you leave me? I still have a million of questions to ask you."
Lady Hao walked towards them and kicked Irus's body. This angered Elliot, causing him to glare at the woman. "What do you think you're doing?"
"Get up," Lady Hao said. "You may look convincing to everyone else, but not to me."
Elliot was about to let out his anger on the woman when Irus's body suddenly twitched. Lance pulled Elliot away as the demon was wrapped with a black shadowy orb, encasing him as he formed a fetal position and hovered into the air.
"Blackless Recovery."
The black orb suddenly melted. It dropped onto the ground. The now black liquid flowed out of Irus's body as the demon laughed when his gaze landed on Lady Hao. "You women really have great intuition. I need more of that."
"I just have a high magic perception," Lady Hao said. "Also because I've been battling you for more than ten times the time it took for Dudu, that was why he didn't notice."
"Ha," Irus laughed. "Anyway, now we know what his plan is. Time to get him."
"Wait," Elliot stood and tilt his head. "What do you mean? Why I don't get it. DuDu killed you."
"I only wanted him to talk," Irus said. "If I didn't pretended to die, then we wouldn't have had that information regarding his plan about becoming an Absolute. Also, since that guy reports to Malice, if he reports that I'm dead, then Malice will surely come to you."
"I have three questions," Allen said. "First of all, what is an Absolute? Then, why do you think Malice would come? And finally, why aren't you putting clothes on?"
Irus laughed again. He waved his hand in the air for the black liquid that was the orb that he curled into to form him a black suit that was fitted perfectly on his lean body. He also wore a small crown over his head as an insult to the emperors.
"An Absolute is a being that is more than a human or any other beings in the six realms," Irus started. "While we may have Eternals and all of those, an Absolute is more than anything. Its existence is solely for the purpose of showcasing its absolute power, hence the name."
"He mentioned that the Almighty and the Forsaken are Absolute?" Elliot asked. "Are they really?"
"Yes," Irus replied. "They are beings that existed above our spectrum and their sole existence are to be them."
"And what about Malice?" Lance was the one who asked this time. "Why would she come now?"
"Because that b*tch knows that I'm the only one who stands between her and killing you," Irus said. "In my few days on Avancia, I have gathered information that a certain someone with the power of both light and darkness is about to end Malice's life."
Elliot looked at Lance who was staring at Irus. He would be lying if he said that he was not jealous of Lance. He wasn't holding any grudge, but he always thought that he was more than Elliot Max or the Creator. That he was in some part of a prophecy or a larger something.
But he was not. Elliot was now accepting the fact that he can only do so much and that he can only support his friends instead of being the one in front of them. But he was still glad.
"Malice wants your head, Lance," Irus continued. "And a being that is more powerful than her stood in between you and her, and that was me. Now that she thinks that I'm dead, she will come to you."
"So, we defeat DuDu and Malice at the same time," Elliot said. "Irus, this is an incredible plan."
"Of course," Irus smirked. "I had millenia stuck inside an eternal darkness. I have thought of all kinds of plot."
The group agreed to follow Irus's plan. The first thing they had to do was protect the maidens, so they have no other choice but to split up. Each team will look for a maiden and fight off the guards DuDu sent.
They will wait for the Rogue Maiden to awaken the other maidens and they will regroup by the end of the week. Elliot was nervous about this plan, but he doesn't have a choice.
"It's time to go," Elliot said to Lance. They were sitting on the ground of the floating island as they watched the sun set. "I will see you soon."
Lance raised his fist and Elliot raised his. "We will see each other soon."
In a dark castle, a series of footsteps was heard. The figure was walking in a stone tunnel as it approaches a dungeon. While everything else was dark, the middle of the dungeon was bright.
In the center was a black well with a black light glowing from its waters. DuDu walked over it and called for his master. "Madam Malice, thanks to the power you gave me, I have eliminated the threat."
"Irus?" Malice smirked. "It's good to know that he's dead. It's him and that little boy that always messes up with my plan. They're trying to take my rights to kill the Prophesied Boy before he could kill me."
"Only the boy is left now, master," DuDu said. "That best friend of his along with the others are no match for you, even when they're Eternals."
"Of course," Malice laughed. "Prepare for me to arrive. We will end this now."
