Chapter 57 Destroying The Links
The reason why Lei Zhen couldn't locate the last link was simple. The mysterious man purposely hid the last link underground and used a different source to sustain it.
However, no matter how meticulous he was at building his insurance, it couldn't escape Omnivision detection.
Since the last link was underground that was directly beneath the source, Lei Zhen decided to destroy the three other links first.
That way, the last link would be the last one needed to destroy and he could utilize his crowd control skill to stall for time.
It was a risky play, but without risk, how can one gain anything?
'Alright, let's get to work.' Lei Zhen slowly retreated sideways. With the grasses placed on his clothes, he remained camouflaged.
And when he was out of sight of the monsters that were spawned, he quickly started to run toward the end of the first link.
The first link was near a tree root that was covered in leaves, most likely done by the mysterious man to try to hide the link.
Equipping his Novice Staff, Lei Zhen used it to stab at the weak point of the link.
THUMP!
The link started to crack after the first stab from Lei Zhen, and mana began leaking out. With a few more stabs, the link completely broke, officially destroying the first link of supply.
However, that was just the first step and Lei Zhen wasted no time to make his way toward the second and third links.
Time slowly passed by, and Lei Zhen finally destroyed the third link after much effort.
Wiping off some sweat on his forehead, Lei Zhen glanced at the system prompt to look at the time. "23 minutes had already gone by? I must hasten my speed."
With the time ticking down rapidly, Lei Zhen started to run and soon, he realized one thing.
His ability and stats seemed to have recovered.
The Lightning Cosmo Domain's effect had officially disappeared after the 30 minutes duration, allowing Lei Zhen to run faster.
"Hah, even heaven is on my side this time," He cheered happily.
Sometime later, Lei Zhen returned back and he was exhilarated to see the pace of the monsters spawning decreasing rapidly.
The three links of supply had been thoroughly destroyed by him, prompting the summoning process to delay.
Before, it was four to six monsters spawning at once, but now, less than two monsters are spawned. Worse, the two monsters seemed to have lost all their ferociousness and were fatigued, limping around.
Seeing the two monsters weakened to this degree, Lei Zhen knew it was his cue to destroy the final link.
He didn't know how Kate was currently faring at the center, and he was starting to worry. The health potion might not last her any longer given that the two hounds are both level 65.
As Lei Zhen approached the source, the two monsters flinched for a while before turning their attention to him.
"Luckily I didn't approach it previously, otherwise I might have been swarmed instead." Seeing the reaction of the two monsters, Lei Zhen's deduction was correct.
If he had approached the source before destroying the three links, then all monsters would have focused on him instead.
However, now that he had already destroyed the three links and the two monsters were weakened, Lei Zhen simply cast [Stun] on them before digging out the ground.
Normally, the monsters should be able to break free from their duration rather quickly, but with their weakened status, it's impossible.
His stun duration could only last 5 seconds currently and that was enough time for Lei Zhen to use his staff to scrape the soil on the ground.
After scraping the soil, Lei Zhen could see the final link blinking subtly. It wasn't blinking as brightly as before, most likely because the mana is about to run dry.
Without hesitation, Lei Zhen used his staff to stab heavily at the link, destroying the summoning process.
Unfortunately for him though, those that have been summoned already will remain.
That was the unfair advantage that a summoner had. Even if you could destroy their summoning location, the monsters that were spawned would still require them to kill.
And 5 seconds quickly passed, but Lei Zhen directly cast [Stun] again before rushing back to the center.
Why should he bother wasting time with two weakened monsters?
They aren't even worth a grain of salt for him in terms of experience points.
Sometime later, Lei Zhen returned to the center and saw Kate being cornered by the two hounds. Her right arm was bleeding profusely and she was completely fatigued.
Kate's eyes seemed to be closing subtly, almost as if she could faint at any moment.
"Damn it, you better not die on me when I just came back." Lei Zhen clicked his tongue and hurriedly cast [Stun].
Unlike the previous time when he couldn't even aim his skill accurately, Lei Zhen seemingly found targeting the two hounds to be fairly easy.
'Could this be the side-effect of Omnivision?' He wondered silently.
From a 30 meters range, Lei Zhen was able to accurately hit Stun on the two hounds, allowing room for Kate to slip through them.
"Are you alright, Kate?" Using that time frame, Lei Zhen hurriedly ran up to Kate and glanced at her.
"Y-You're finally back…" Kate mumbled weakly before collapsing on Lei Zhen's arm.
Her eyes are fully closed now and her legs turn into jelly, prompting Lei Zhen to use his strength to hold her up.
Worried, Lei Zhen checked to see if she was still breathing and was glad to know that she had just fainted due to fatigue.
pαndα`noνɐ1--сoМ "Phew, what a strong woman you are." At this point, he was amazed by her willpower to last this long.
If it were him, then he might have fallen a long time ago.
Unequipping his staff for the moment, Lei Zhen carried her up and laid her gently on a nearby corner.
The situation wasn't over yet since the two hounds still had their glare on them.
