Chapter 570: 570: Military Ballista
Chapter 570: Chapter 570: Military Ballista
“I heard you guys have elite troops, I’m interested to see if they’re elite enough to withstand these war machines.” The Guardian Angel drooled when he saw the various apparatus Li Yao had gathered.
Nowadays, getting a single bed crossbow can cost a fortune, let alone the amount that Li Yao had managed to obtain.
Sixteen stone throwers, twenty-four medium-sized ballistae, plus Li Yao’s own bed crossbow, making a total of twenty-five. They were not something that could simply be bought.
No markings meant they were newly made and hadn’t had the chance to be marked before Li Yao got ahold of them. What was more, these were not borrowed but became legitimate property of the guild.
Even top guilds having four or five of the most ineffective stone throwers would be quite impressive. But they managed to get so many all at once which left everyone flabbergasted.
“Geez, Starfire must be filthy rich. This stuff isn’t cheap, right?” A small live host muttered to himself.
The tanuki spoke indifferently, “No joke. You think these things can be bought if you have the money? Take a closer look at them; they are military stone throwers and ballistae used by the Undead Legion. Do you understand what that means? It’s miles different from the castrated version of small stone throwers and ballistae that we players can get our hands on.”
These words piqued everyone’s curiosity, as they began wondering what the differences might be.
The tanuki proudly explained, “Hey hey, in appreciation for your sincere curiosity, I will explain generously. The ‘castrated’ version is often used for defense in mines or resource points. It’s built to be lightweight and save resources, thus its power is limited. The military version, however, can truly kill boss-levelstrong creatures. As for the stone thrower, the range and power are at least five or six times greater.”
Everyone took a sharp breath upon hearing this. Who wouldn’t know that a regular ballista can easily kill off the strongest tank at the current game stage, let alone something that is five or six times stronger?
“Look, these are the bed crossbows and stone-throwing carts used by the Undead’s Third Legion. Compare it for yourselves. Aren’t they the spitting image except for the absence of a beacon?”
With the pictures shared by the tanuki, the audience couldn’t help but believe his words. Many guilds watching the live broadcast felt envious and jealous because they only had the castrated versions that the tanuki mentioned. Moreover, there were restrictions on obtaining them. It was simply unimaginable to them to get dozens of items at a time.
“It’s over. With the onslaught of these stone throwers and ballistae, how can they possibly pass through this area?” The Mad Think Tank messaged Crazy Runaway, “Did you contact Prairie Fire? What did he say?”
Crazy Runaway replied with a bitter smile, “If you were Prairie Fire, would you accept a surrender at this time?”
The Think Tank was silent. With his wisdom, he naturally understood that Starfire was backed into a corner, thus resorting to this method.
After all, other than a guildhall, Starfire had nothing in its base. Under these circumstances, it was abnormal for anyone to apply for a territory.
With the successful calculation of the enemies and the arrival of the monsters, surrendering now would be unlikely to gain Starfire’s acceptance.
If Starfire let them go, then they would undoubtedly be unable to fend off the monsters. After this realization, the Think Tank not only slumped but also felt a burning sensation on his face because he had been outsmarted by someone.
“There’s no other choice but to fight. We can’t let Starfire get away with this.” Crazy Runaway was already resolved.
The situation today was definitely not going to end peacefully. The idea of taking down Starfire without any losses was clearly unrealistic.
Although they had lost many people, those were mostly casual players hired temporarily. The actual loss to their own troops was not significant.
“Attack and break through Starfire’s base.”
They had no choice but to fire their loaded arrows. If they didn’t even try, how would they know the final outcome?
Audiences were excited. The great war had finally arrived. Although it was not the first guild war, it was certainly the largest and most mysterious battle ever.
“Brothers, let them taste the might of our military machinery.” The Guardian Angel immediately gave the command.
Those who were responsible for operating the machinery had experience and had been trained by Li Yao, so they were fully capable.
With the order, more than twenty crossbow arrows roared through the air, piercing into the charging crowd.
Thud, thud, thud…
Everyone watched as the charging formation of the United Army became utterly chaotic. The huge steel arrows ripped through their bodies, piercing through twenty or so people before finally losing momentum.
Merely in an instant, five to six hundred charging players fell.
The battlefield was shrouded in a haze of blood. This wasn’t even the most horrific scene. It could get even bloodier in a real battle.
Li Yao seemed unfazed, while the players were stunned.
Even the charging players froze in their tracks, staring blankly at the bodies strewn all over and the blood mist that had floated onto them.
No one, be they enemies or viewers, could help but be stunned by Starfire’s breathtaking power.
“It’s horrifying – surrounded by marsh on all sides and a single charging passageway. There’s no way they can make it through this,” said the Tanuki, a military enthusiast, clearly shaken by the turn of events.
Boom, boom, boom…
The rumbling sound of monsters’ footsteps awakened everyone from the shocking scene. Countless monsters flooded in from all directions. In their field of vision, it was as if they were facing an endless sea of monsters.
On the west were a large number of sharks, murlocs, and naga. In the north were naga, murlocs, and various sea monsters. The west was filled with groups of raptors, and the south teemed with wild beasts such as lions, bears, and tigers.
The monsters were teeming and densely packed.
“Like a dream, so shocking. No wonder those guilds choose locations without monsters or those with low levels.” The Tanuki’s face turned white. He wasn’t safe either, as the monsters didn’t care whether he was live-streaming or not.
Crazy Runaway’s eyes turned red. He was caught between a rock and a hard place – with monsters on one side and Starfire on the other. Now it was a matter of life and death. In case their war effort failed, they would not only lose experience and equipment but would also be required to pay war reparations.
This was a rule set by the three factions. Otherwise, if the attacking side didn’t suffer any losses after failure, the major guilds would be attacking other guilds all day.
“Charge!” The Guardian Angel issued another order for the charge.
Although shocked, Starfire’s soldiers were currently high in morale and directly charged into the opposition’s formation.
Meanwhile, the monsters collided with the Allied Army and the war erupted in full force.
“You don’t need to lift a finger to gain experience, thanks a lot.” Li Yao said with a big smile.
Crazy Runaway was so angry that he spat blood. It was true. Although the monster siege was dangerous, you could benefit greatly if you survived. Experience was three to four times that of regular monsters. What’s worse, no matter who killed the monster, the experience would be allocated to the defending guild.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
The Starfire members were more in awe of Li Yao. Initially, these people had come to attack Starfire, yet now they had become Starfire’s protection. They were even helping Starfire to level up. There was nothing more enjoyable than this…
