Chapter 52 One Man, Destroys a City! (Part 1)
The night had fallen silent.
With whom could he share his thoughts?
He could not yield...
"I, a mighty Transcendent, captured by you lot?"
As the night turned pitch black, Chen Yu suddenly rose from his dormitory bed, his eyes icy, his fists forcefully tearing free!
"Snap!"
The iron handcuff chain instantaneously broke!
"Crack—"
Then, twisting left with his right hand and right with his left.
The cuffs were completely distorted.
Stowing the shattered handcuffs into his pocket, Chen Yu straightened the hat on his head and strode to the dormitory door, gently pushing it open.
The door was unlocked.
Turning his neck and flexing his joints, he then moved to the window and, as easily as a child dismantling a set of blocks, effortlessly removed the iron bars, executing a deft somersault to vanish into the vast night outside the police station.
"Qingcheng can't stay here anymore."
"Certainly can't return to the capital either..."
Randomly finding a shared bicycle area, Chen Yu pulled out his phone to unlock a bike and mounted it: "Time to head home!"
Having been in this world for just over a year,
he had yet to see with his own eyes what "home" looked like.
But, having merged with the original host's memories, he knew the way all too well. Maintaining a speed of eighty kilometers per hour, it took him just two hours to reach Hecheng.
He stopped in front of an old residential building.
It was deep into a winter night at that time.
The north wind blew fiercely.
Inside the compound, various trash such as water bottles, dead leaves, plastic bags, and cardboard boxes fluttered everywhere, indistinguishable from the "slums" in his memory.
A world apart from the villa district where his plump neighbor lived.
"..."
"What is this strange yet familiar feeling all about..."
A sudden gust of wind blew past, sweeping Chen Yu's hat into the air, revealing his "Unblemished Virgin" title.
"Snap!"
Standing rooted to the spot, Chen Yu simply reached out and caught the hat, then put it back on his head.
With no further hesitation, he strode into the residential building.
"Tap."
"Tap..."
Upon reaching the third floor, he stopped in front of an iron door plastered with locksmith and crowd-flow ads from Miss Zhao, knowing this was where his parents lived.
The place his "predecessor" had grown up...
After a moment's hesitation, Chen Yu raised his hand and gently knocked on the door.
"Bang bang bang—"
"..."
No response from inside.
Chen Yu, hands in his pockets, waited for about five minutes before knocking again.
"Thud thud thud thud—"
Still, no response from inside...
Chen Yu frowned and tentatively scraped his fingernail along the door seam.
"Creak—"
The door opened.
It had been unlocked all along.
Confused, Chen Yu opened the door and entered, only to see a mess inside.
The table was shattered.
The fridge had fallen.
The TV was in pieces.
All the glass windows had dropped out.
The howling winter wind ripped through, causing the curtain, tattered as rags, to flutter noisily.
"What?"
Dumbstruck on the spot, Chen Yu's brain stalled.
"Has the home been demolished?"
"..."
"But was there any need to smash the furniture too?"
Bending over, he picked up a torn photograph which included a family portrait of the Chens. Chen Yu's expression gradually darkened.
Clearly, even if relocating, his family would not have damaged something as sentimental as a family photograph.
Without any hesitation, Chen Yu immediately pulled out his phone and dialed his sister's number.
"Beep—"
"Beep—"
The ringing continued for a minute before Chen answered the phone, "Um... Hello?"
Your next chapter awaits on empire
"Sis, it's me."
"Ah! Chen Yu! Why are you calling so late? What happened?" Chen sounded wide awake on the other end.
"Nothing much, just that I've come home. Why is there no one here?"
"You're back? Did you come back today?"
"Yes."
"We... we've moved. Wait there, I'll come to get you. Mom, Xiaoyu is back..."
The call was cut off.
Chen Yu found a relatively clean spot to sit and began to look around the room while waiting.
Not long after.
Accompanied by a rush of footsteps, the door was pulled open, and a woman with a ponytail, dressed in skinny jeans, ran in. Upon seeing Chen Yu, she exclaimed with joy, "Little brother!"
"Big sister is getting more and more beautiful," Chen Yu stood up, opened his arms, and gave the young woman a big hug.
Indeed, this was a "stranger" he had never met before.
But the memories and subconsciousness naturally present in his mind still made it hard for Chen Yu to resist this sense of closeness.
"Let's go, little brother, mom has already made food for you." Taking Chen Yu's hand, Chen couldn't stop chattering with excitement, "I've missed you so much. You wouldn't have come back if it weren't for the new year, right? How have you been? Got a girlfriend yet?"
Chen Yu: "I might be dealing with boyfriends in the future."
"What?" Chen turned around, baffled: "What?"
"Nothing, I didn't say anything." Chen Yu changed the topic and gestured around the room, "By the way, what's the deal with this place?"
"Oh, we just moved. Left the stuff we don't use here," Chen said nonchalantly, pulling Chen Yu quickly out of the room.
"Oh."
Chen Yu nodded, giving Chen a deep look before not saying anything more.
The two went downstairs and left the complex.
Under the dim streetlights, Chen Yu noticed some bruises on Chen's face and frowned, "What happened? Did someone hit you?"
"I feel like beating you up." Chen's smile faded from her face, "Can you speak properly?"
"Then how did you get these?"
"You might not know, but a robbery happened here recently. I was right there!" Chen said seriously, "Can you believe it?"
"Hmm," Chen Yu nodded, "So, you were hit by the robber?"
"BS. The armed police were deployed, DuangDuang two shots! The criminal was shot dead on the spot!" Chen got increasingly excited as she spoke, "Then guess what?"
Chen Yu: "Were you beaten by the armed police?"
"Can you stop saying I was beaten by someone?"
"Alright. Who beat you then?"
Chen: "…Listen to me finish."
"Alright alright," Chen Yu impatiently urged, "Continue."
"After the criminal was shot dead, there was chaos at the scene! Some young guy, maybe an accomplice, suddenly rushed forward and started dancing with a basketball!"
Chen Yu: "…"
"I took a closer look, goodness! That was my basketball! I was so mad, I stormed out there," Chen waved her fists angrily, "shouting 'catch the thief!'"
Chen Yu: "…"
"As they say, fire aids wind and wind aids fire! The cops at the scene joined me, and we snatched the basketball right away. But you know I'm pretty heavy-handed, I tore off half his clothes."
Chen Yu: "…"
"It's cold these days, right? The guy just cried and shivered as he snuggled into his mom's arms. I just scoffed: Hmm, cozying up to your mom, are you?"
Chen Yu: "…"
"Then his mom and I started fighting." After finishing the story in one breath, Chen paused to catch her breath, pointing at her black eye, "This is the battle scar."
Chen Yu: "…You should hear what you just said."
"No thanks." Stopping in her tracks, Chen pointed to a large tent in the corner of the park, "We're home."
Chen Yu turned his head following the direction Chen pointed, as if struck by lightning.
"How about that?" Chen put her hands on her hips, proudly, "This is what I call an open-concept family."
"In the middle of winter..." Chen Yu was stunned, "You're leading the whole family through a tribulation..."
"Oh come on, let's go inside. It's warm inside."
Pulled by Chen, Chen Yu snapped back to his senses, his face growing darker by the moment as he silently crawled into the "shabby" tent.
Immediately, he saw Ms. Chen, flustered in front of a pot.
"Xiaoyu? Xiaoyu is back?"
Hearing the commotion, Ms. Chen hurriedly looked up, her cloudy eyes wide open, her rough and wrinkled hands reaching out, stumbling towards them, "You two are quick, the food's not ready yet."
Timidly extending his right hand, he clasped Ms. Chen's hands. Chen Yu raised his left hand and waved it in front of Ms. Chen's eyes.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
Ms. Chen had no reaction.
"…"
Lowering his hand, sparks of barely visible fire began to flash around Chen Yu...
