Chapter 238 On Fire
Seeing how well the security guard treated the two of them, and that he was sincerely inviting them to visit, Han Xuewei was somewhat moved.
She really liked children and wanted to see how they lived in the kindergarten, so she walked forward.
Mo Jihua nodded and said, "Not bad, we can go in and take a look."
Seizing the opportunity, Han Xuewei nodded, and Mo Jihua walked inside. He understood that the security guard probably mistook him for Han Xuewei's husband.
For some reason, he felt extremely pleased to be misunderstood like this. If all of it were true, how wonderful that would be.
Han Xuewei walked towards the inside, where the children were still playing outside. One child slid down a slide, and another ran out. Seeing this scene full of vitality, Han Xuewei just smiled slightly.
Then the security guard came over with a pencil and a notebook and said, "The two of you, please register first. Everyone needs to sign in when they enter here."
Soon after finishing the registration, Han Xuewei and Mo Jihua ran to the front to watch the children play. The children were not shy, probably because they felt that Han Xuewei radiated a maternal glow that made them feel close to her.
But just then, while the children were playing, a series of heart-wrenching screams suddenly came from the second floor of the kindergarten, sounding utterly terrifying.
The security guard immediately showed a vigilant expression and rushed forward without paying any attention to Han Xuewei and Mo Jihua.
Quickly, many children were carried out from the first floor, crying and wailing, creating a scene of chaos. Many teachers were pulling three or four children with one hand and dragging five or six children with the other hand, all heading outside.
Looking towards the second floor, thick black smoke was already billowing out.
Han Xuewei and Mo Jihua were both shocked by the sight, and the teachers started to scream.
"Quick, put out the fire, save them! There's a fire inside, someone set it on fire, catch her, it's one of our school's teachers!"
Both Han Xuewei and Mo Jihua were stunned by these words.
Han Xuewei's eyes widened, "What's going on? Is there really a fire?"
Hearing this, Han Xuewei found it unbelievable. This was a kindergarten, filled with children. Who would be so audacious to set fire to a building here?! Were they indifferent to the lives of so many little children?
At that moment, a female teacher ran out breathlessly, putting down a little boy she was carrying. She spoke exhaustedly, "That woman is one of our teachers. When I went up to catch her, she ran away. I don't know what she was up to. After clearing the children a bit, she just ignited the gas in the kitchen!"
"And she ignited it inside the classroom. There are still other children inside. I managed to bring a few out; the children were all frightened and crying..."
"We've called the police. It's too terrifying, really too terrifying!"
"How much longer until the firefighters arrive?!"
"It should still be about ten more minutes; we've just called the police!"
The teachers were discussing it amongst themselves, their faces not hiding the panic. Han Xuewei looked at the billowing black smoke coming from the second floor and thought of the children. Seeing the children gasping and crying, she showed a look of determination.
"Teacher Mo, we can't delay any longer, the children are still inside!" Han Xuewei said, and quickly walked toward the front.
The direction they were headed was the security room, where some spare fire extinguishers were usually kept idle. Just now, a security guard had taken one and ran upstairs with it.
Han Xuewei thought that another person could provide additional strength. Mo Jihua was also somewhat surprised, having not expected Han Xuewei to be so brave in such a situation.
Mo Jihua grabbed two fire extinguishers, and Han Xuewei took one from him. The extinguisher was quite heavy in her hands, but she still forcefully lifted it without saying a word and quickly ran forward.
The surrounding teachers were all frightened by their actions, but only they knew how serious it was inside.
At this moment, seeing the billowing black smoke pouring out, Han Xuewei knew it must be very dangerous inside. If the children were inside, inhaling that black smoke could potentially cause lifelong damage to their lungs.
Han Xuewei, regardless of anything else, charged forward. Ever since she became a mother, her courage had grown much greater than before. Dense black smoke rolled toward them, but Han Xuewei didn't hesitate and briskly continued onward.
At the staircase, they saw a panicked woman running out crazily, followed by a group of security guards shouting.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
"It's that woman, don't let her escape!"
"Go to the first floor, block her! Block her!"
As the people yelled, the woman, with no way out, turned back from the corridor and charged toward Han Xuewei and her group.
At that moment, Han Xuewei was holding a fire extinguisher when she heard the commotion outside. The woman came rushing toward her, wielding a knife, which caused Han Xuewei to reveal a look of panic.
Mo Jihua immediately raised the fire extinguisher in his hand and it clashed with the knife, producing a sonorous clang.
Then, he swung the heavy extinguisher down, hitting the woman's wrist. She immediately showed a pained expression and stumbled backward, falling to the ground.
Seeing the weapon drop from the woman's hand, Mo Jihua acted quickly, lunging forward. It was relatively easy for an adult man to subdue a woman. Mo Jihua grabbed her hand and pressed her back hard, pinning her to the ground.
But the woman struggled wildly, flailing her arms and legs at Mo Jihua, scratching and clawing at his hands. In an instant, several bloodstains appeared on the back of Mo Jihua's hand and arm.
Yet Mo Jihua did not hesitate and continued to hold the woman down, while Han Xuewei also stepped in to help pin her down, until several security guards quickly arrived.
Mo Jihua then lifted his head and said, "First, take the fire extinguisher, put out the fire!"
As Mo Jihua spoke, Han Xuewei didn't hesitate and immediately took the fire extinguisher and ran forward. The most important thing now was the group of children hiding in the classroom. After the security guards had subdued the woman,
Mo Jihua also picked up a fire extinguisher and charged in with Han Xuewei, followed by several other people who came to help.
Although the fire was increasingly fierce, they had discovered it in time. Thankfully, the children had already left the classroom and were all hiding in the corner of the classroom. The fire had started in another classroom.
At least the situation wasn't as bad as it could have been. Han Xuewei was pressing on the fire extinguisher, which was nearly emptied.
