Paragon of Death

Chapter 70

70 Chapter 69: Don’t be stupid!

“Don’t be stupid, who in his right mind would let a kid of thirteen lead them in battle? Let’s all be realistic” Dennis Hail said with a frown as he gazed at Damon coldly.

“Hmph! Even if you are given a chance to lead an army, who the hell would want to listen to a mere esteemed human? Amongst your class, you may be amazing but outside here you are nothing” Tristain said coldly. He too didn’t fancy the crazy ideas springing up in Damon’s head.

The duo let go of Ale and returned to their seats again with dull faces. Unlike Duke Hail, these people had no intentions of acting nice to Damon unless he did something to deserve it.

“Remain contempt with the role you have been asked to play, train as you are told, and do as you are told and you may survive ” Alicia Hail said calmly. She wasn’t as cold as the other two.

Thud!

Before Damon could talk, Jenny was already on her feet with her hand swinging at Damon but this time it wasn’t her fist but claws!

She was taking his advice!

Swoosh!

Damon quickly retreated but Jean followed closely and continued raining attacks on them!

.....

His eyes revealed strange emotions as his plans were shattered and downplayed by others but he still tried to remain calm.

For a short moment, his footwork was messy causing him to almost trip but also giving Jean the opportunity to close the gap between them. Seeing her claw slash towards him, Damon exploded with power!

His hands moved gracefully, carrying with them a streak of darkish purple aura surging from his claws! His eyes lit up as made graceful turns with his hands before striking out!

Secret technique; Brilliant claw!

Peng!

The claw-shaped energy attack raced towards Jenny who met it with her normal claw attacks! For a short moment, there seemed to be a minor struggle but his attack was shattered!

Seeing this Damon frowned and retreated even farther.

“That’s enough...” Duke Hail said coldly, shattering the silence that once existed.

He let out a defeated sigh as he looked toward Damon. After his plans were talked down and shattered, his movements, attacks, and defense became clumsy. It was clear his mind was not in the game anymore.

“You will lead an army if you are able to raise your strength as a lone wolf. To do that you have two months...” Duke Hail said as he walked towards the confused Damon.

“The royal family had put in so much effort to get detailed information on major gatherings of supernatural beings in the kingdom. In fact, even individual names were gathered just for us. The goal is to subdue and have you kill them but I’m sure you won’t be willing to take free kills so we will let you handle this matter alone” Duke Hail said as he pulled out a list and handed it over to Damon who was still confused.

“Clear out the names on that list and I will give you a shot at leading an army, ” Duke Hail said sternly before leaving! Damon wanted more and he simply gave him a chance to do more now. If Damon can’t do this much then he isn’t worthy. It was just that simple to the Duke.

“I understand,” Damon said firmly. At first, he was confused but now he was done going through the list he had an idea of what to do

..............

On the list were individuals and groups as well. Since there were more individuals, it was clear these people simply wanted him to start off by killing individuals but once his level has risen he can try taking out teams.

Walking through the busy road, Damon walked into a pub in the capital known as Phoenix pub. Dressed in his mage robes, he calmly moved up to the counter and took a seat. His appearance drew the attention of many but seeing his clothes they assumed he was a student and stopped paying attention.

“So what would you like to have?” A youth with bright orange hair and nice orange eyes spoke up, catching his attention.

“Just a shot,” Damon said calmly as he placed a few copper coins on the desk.

His request stunned the youth who should be somewhere near his early twenties. It’s not every day you see a kid of thirteen years asking for a drink. In normal circumstances, he would be rejected but his identity as a student of the mage academy was more than enough.

“Since it’s your first time here, this one’s on me... a sign of good faith” the youth said calmly as he filled up a small glass cup and slid it towards Damon’s direction.

Pa!

Damon caught it and quickly emptied its contents.

“Again!” Damon demanded as he savored the bitterness of the drink and felt his head getting hot.

...........

The bartender stepped out from the back door and locked it. While doing this, he saw someone at a corner, spitting his guts out.

It was the magic Academy student in black mage robes. This wasn’t the first time he has seen something like this so he wasn’t moved.

“You kept drinking so much I thought you were a professional... I’m pretty sure you will get better at it after a while” He said as he patted Damon’s back and walked past.

“You know, I heard about a bartender who came to the capital from nowhere with a small fortune. For a decade now he maintained this bar without an issue....” Damon said, causing the youth to stop walking.

“I was told the owner of the bar has secrets. Like how a homeless man once lived in front of your bar and was fed every day by you... a few people saw him walk into the bar with you last night. They all thought you were giving him a warm place to sleep but he never came out” Damon said with a pale and slightly drunk face.

His eyes seemed unfocused while he gazed at the man with a calm look on his face.

“This...” the bartender muttered with a frown.

He turned to look at the magic Academy student once again as if he was trying to change the kid’s first impression in his mind.
