PATH OF THE STAR HUNTER

Chapter 60

60 Chapter 60 Fierce and controlled, a Desmond who instills fear.

(Unknown person POV)

Since that strange masked man made an appearance on the watchtower shooting the Ripper Crows, the battle stabilized once again, we just had to hold out long enough for reinforcements to arrive and everything would be fine.

′′ Ortega, give me another round of assault rifle ammunition. . . Ortega? ′′

At the lack of response from my trench mate, I turned around only to find him with both hands holding his neck as blood bubbled from between his fingers, I hurried in his direction and tried to help him stop the bleeding, but his throat it had been cut from side to side.

′′ Ortega, shit Ortega, how the hell did you end up like this, A DOCTOR! I NEED A FUCKING DOCTOR RIGHT NOW! ′′

I screamed trying to make the doctors come to help my partner, but no one came, when I looked around I realized that between the sound of the gunshots and the roar of the beasts, my cry for help was not the only one that happened. unnoticed. It was obvious that whatever happened to Ortega happened to other soldiers in the defense line who now found themselves dead on the ground surrounded by a pool of their own blood.

I did not understand what was happening, but it was clear that we were on the losing side in it, soon Ortega stopped moving and his body temperature reached a level that does not belong to the living, leaving my longtime friend dead in the ground, I used my bloodstained fingers to at least close his horror-filled eyes and give him some peace.

When I got up from the ground a hiss arose behind me followed by a sound of the flesh being torn, without even thinking about it I jumped forward, crouching down as much as possible, not feeling any pain I realized that the attack was not directed at me, when lifting the sight a strange humanoid creature was in front of me with a hole torn in the middle of the chest showing the landscape through it.

I’m not known for my superior intellect or anything close to it, but I didn’t have to be known to realize that whatever that thing is, it’s what was killing my companions, as for who killed the beast, it was that masked archer who intruded on his own account in this entire defensive disaster.

.....

Soon I witnessed how the masked man calmly placed his bow on his shoulder, for a moment I wondered why he was giving up what was clearly his main weapon, seeing him take out a pair of black daggers immediately afterwards with a swing Quickly and unexpectedly, blood gushed out of the empty air behind him, revealing another one of those creatures with reptilian characteristics.

In doing so, he seems to have provoked the rest of these monsters that were hiding looking for more soldiers to slaughter, because soon a group of at least ten more of them revealed themselves forming a fence around the man in black robes.

I almost worried for a moment about the man’s safety and asked for reinforcements, but soon I saw how that man, using only the two daggers in his hands, completely slaughtered whoever dared to attack him.

The first enemy to approach him, he was greeted with a dagger piercing his windpipe all the way to the back of his neck, when with a burst of superhuman speed the masked man appeared in front of him taking him off guard.

After using his last dead enemy now on his knees as a point of support, he stepped on his shoulder giving a rear jump avoiding another beast that was trying to ambush him, being in the air he gave a cross cut with his daggers making a gigantic laceration in the back of the beast that he had just evaded.

Barely falling to the ground, he performed a high-speed lateral turn giving a thrusting kick right in the center of the chest of another enemy, followed by another back somersault with which he managed to connect an upward kick to the chin of the beast that was trying to attack him. It was almost ridiculous how fluid his movements and reactions were when fighting, he had easily dodged two surprise attacks made by the lizardmen attempting to use what I can only describe as a bony, hook-shaped bulge protruding from the back of their wrists to tear it apart, it was this biological weapon that had been used to assassinate my companions.

Now having killed one of them, incapacitating another, and leaving two more to rebound from the blows just delivered, the masked man shifted from a fierce offense to a fluid and steady defense against the other lizardmen surrounding him. Constantly dodging the grapples or blocking them with his daggers, he occasionally lashed out with a lightning counterattack, accumulating wounds on his enemies.
