Chapter 686: Surgery on Logan
Chapter 686: Surgery on Logan
When Fang Mo returned to X Academy, he was in high spirits.
It was already the next day.
Due to the earlier attack on X Academy by the troops sent by Stryker, many buildings and internal facilities were damaged, and Jean remained in a coma. Consequently, the inside of X Academy was in utter chaos.
Adding to this, Magneto Erik was not idle either, seemingly intent on continuing his genetic mutation plans.
Originally, Charles and his team wanted to talk to Fang Mo.
But Fang Mo didn't come back to the academy that day.
Given the situation, everyone had to focus on handling other matters, which took up an entire day, and no one noticed when exactly Fang Mo returned.
By the time they realized it, Fang Mo had already begun setting up his medical room in a grand manner.
Storm, Cyclops, and others might not be aware, but those who had been to Lake Alkali—Darwin, Nightcrawler, Logan, and even Charles—had witnessed Fang Mo's ultimate move firsthand.
That terrifying repulsion field, akin to a superweapon...With just one strike, it flattened the entire Alkali Industrial Zone. Aside from them, not a single soldier managed to escape.
Not to mention the meteor that fell from the sky later.
Not only Charles, but even Magneto Erik was stunned by the sight.
Everyone present couldn't help but sigh. Decades ago, Fang Mo hadn't used such a move against Sebastian. Clearly, his power had become even more terrifying over the years, potentially as Darwin said, capable of destroying the entire planet with ease.
The meteor's impact was not limited to Lake Alkali; it affected a large part of the United States.
Nearby areas experienced earthquakes, floods, or volcanic eruptions, while more distant places were not spared from the volcanic ash clouds, resulting in gloomy weather. Experts calculated that such extreme weather might persist for some time.
Honestly, everyone dared not imagine.
What if Fang Mo suddenly decided to summon a meteor above the Pentagon or the White House?
Even without summoning that terrifying meteor, releasing the repulsion field would be enough to destroy Washington, D.C.
Erik couldn't help but feel envious just thinking about it. How great it would be if he had such power. Charles, on the other hand, was extremely worried, knowing that Fang Mo could indeed do such a thing if provoked by the military again...
The next day, the President's head might end up flying out of the solar system at third cosmic speed.
Fortunately, the U.S. government had not yet discovered the situation.
After all, they had limited information. Even if the CIA retained some intelligence on Fang Mo, it was decades old.
So, for now, the U.S. President was unaware of the true cause of the Alkali Dam's destruction.
In his view, the industrial zone was indeed hit by a meteor... but the problem was, how could such a large meteor suddenly fall within the United States, and his departments had no prior detection? This was simply incomprehensible, causing him to fly into a rage.
Of course, X Academy could not escape unscathed.
Due to Fang Mo's massacre of the soldiers at the academy, the President, already furious, began to hold them accountable.
To handle this mess, Charles was nearly at his wits' end.
Thankfully, Beast, acting as a mutant diplomat, managed to negotiate externally, preventing the soldiers from storming the academy again.
"Let me confirm once more."
At that moment, in Fang Mo's newly arranged medical room, Logan sat on a nearby sofa, his face dark, and asked, "You're sure you didn't cause any trouble while you were missing, right?"
"Of course."
Fang Mo replied while placing two iron blocks on the ground to serve as an operating table.
"Then why are you only coming back now?"
Logan, seemingly disbelieving, asked again, "What were you doing while you were missing? You didn't assassinate some senator, did you?"
"No. Do I seem that low to you?"
Fang Mo couldn't help but retort, "I'm Jesus, after all. Have you ever seen a god, from any system, being petty enough to assassinate a politician? Uh... let's exclude Loki; that's just how he's portrayed in the movies."
"What nonsense..."
Logan frowned, "I just want to know if you've caused more trouble. You should know, everyone's been incredibly busy these past two days."
"What! They're so busy they've lost their faith?"
Fang Mo exclaimed in shock.
"Can you stop making religious jokes?"
Logan wiped his face, "I know you're ridiculously powerful, and they say you've become even stronger than decades ago. But I want to say... some people might deserve to die, but many are innocent. God loves all people. If you really are a god, you should take responsibility."
"Hmm..."
Hearing Logan's words, Fang Mo stroked his chin and pondered, "You might have a point."
"Really?"
Logan seemed relieved.
"Hey, don't think too badly of me."
Before Logan could say anything more, Fang Mo suddenly spoke, "Actually, during the time I was missing, I was also busy saving the world."
"You? Saving the world?"
Hearing this, Logan suddenly had a bad feeling, "What exactly did you do?"
"What kind of attitude is that?"
Fang Mo raised his eyebrows immediately, "I really was out there saving the world, alright? According to our Chinese legends, it was like Nüwa mending the heavens..."
"What is that?"
Logan clearly wasn't familiar with Eastern mythology.
"It's nothing much."
Fang Mo waved his hand dismissively and changed the topic, "Compared to that, what about your side... when are we starting?"
"Starting what?"
Logan was puzzled.
"Obviously, the surgery."
As Fang Mo spoke, he drew out a cleaver and stabbed it into the ground beside him, "You promised that if I helped you save Charles, you'd agree to let me perform the craniotomy, right?"
"…"
Logan fell silent for a moment.
He reached into his chest pocket, pulled out a stick-like object wrapped in aluminum foil, and slowly peeled it open, revealing a genuine ancient Cuban cigar inside.
"Hey, I'm back again."
As soon as the cigar was unwrapped, it called out.
Logan said nothing, lighting the cigar silently. As smoke began to curl up, he took a deep drag. Hearing Fang Mo talk about a craniotomy made him a bit nervous, and he wanted a smoke to calm his nerves.
After all, if he waited until he was dead to smoke, it would be a posthumous cigar, wouldn't it?
But in the next second.
Logan's expression suddenly changed.
"Ugh... cough cough... ptooey!"
Logan coughed twice, his face showing an inexplicable look, and then he glanced suspiciously at the cigar in his hand.
"Stinky tofu with lemon, how do you like the flavor of my cigar?"
The cigar in his hand shouted again.
"Ugh..."
Logan clearly had a headache. He thought for a moment, rewrapped the cigar, put it back in his pocket, then looked up at Fang Mo and said, "I'll ask you one last time, you're sure you're not up to something else, right?"
"Yes, I'm sure."
Fang Mo nodded quickly and patted the metal surgery table in front of him, "Hurry up and lie down."
"…"
Logan took a deep breath. He was a man of his word. Since he had promised Fang Mo the surgery, he wouldn't go back on it. So, he stood up, walked to the surgery table, and lay down.
"What do you plan to do next?"
Lying on the table, Logan asked. The cold metal bed reminded him of some unpleasant memories.
"What to do?"
Fang Mo tilted his head, "Of course, to remove the bullet. What else? Oh, and remember to take off your clothes."
"I got shot in the head. Why do I need to take off my clothes?"
Logan frowned, realizing things weren't as simple as he thought.
"I don't want the blood to splatter on your clothes... I mean, that's standard procedure for surgery, to prevent infection," Fang Mo said earnestly, "I am a doctor after all, I know better than you."
"I don't believe you."
Logan said, but still took off his clothes silently.
"Wow, those muscles... you're a real man."
Seeing Logan take off his clothes, Fang Mo couldn't help but admire his physique. Though he had seen more muscular bodies in anime, like Super Alloy Darkshine, those seemed too exaggerated. Logan's body looked more pleasing: "You know, your body looks like a diet-controlled Hugh Jackman..."
"Can't you just shut up and be quiet like a doctor should?" Logan couldn't help but say.
"No, buddy, don't you have any fat at all?" Fang Mo had no intention of stopping: "You know, just five inches of fat can protect your vital organs from small caliber bullets..."
"So the reason Americans have such a high obesity rate... is because they're adapting to their environment?" Logan subconsciously quipped, but suddenly realized and wiped his face: "Damn it, are you going to operate or not?"
"Yes, yes, let's get started." Fang Mo said as he picked up the Manyullyn Cleaver: "Look at how anxious you are..."
"Wait a minute." When it was time for the surgery, Logan got nervous again: "You're not really going to crack open my head like this, are you?"
"That was the plan." Fang Mo nodded seriously with a stern face, then suddenly clapped his hands with a grin: "But considering you're my good friend, Wade, I decided to give you the latest painless treatment!"
"Wait, I'm not having a craniotomy..."
"The world!" Before Logan could finish, Fang Mo activated his power without warning.
The Sword of Time in his storage space trembled violently, and a spherical time field expanded from Fang Mo, causing the surrounding scenery to dim as if the entire world was frozen in that moment.
Once time stopped, Fang Mo got busy. He grabbed a Totem of Undying and gave it to Logan, then immediately slashed at Logan's forehead. Logan's scalp split open instantly, like an Indian being scalped by Americans, and the purple blade clashed with his Adamantium skull, making a "ding" sound.
"Mm..." Feeling the strong resistance, Fang Mo applied more force. Accompanied by a grating sound that raised goosebumps, the enchanted Manyullyn Cleaver slowly cut through the Adamantium, embedding itself into Logan's brain.
The whole cutting process didn't take long. With Fang Mo's continuous effort, it took less than a few minutes to cut an opening in Logan's skull. After that, Fang Mo searched for the bullet. Though Logan could regenerate, Fang Mo couldn't just casually poke around in his brain as if it were tofu. The brain is very delicate, so Fang Mo pulled out a Shoggoth to help.
Shoggoths are quite effective in this regard. It turned into countless threads and almost merged into Logan's brain, quickly locating the bullet and yanking it out with a pop. A blood-stained silver bullet flew out. Fang Mo caught the bullet and relaxed. He sent the Shoggoth back and tried to reassemble Logan's skull.
For others, this might be tricky, given that Logan's skull is made of Adamantium. But Fang Mo, being essentially a block person, found real-world laws easy to manipulate. He pulled out an enchanting table, enchanted the piece of skull with Mending, and reattached it, applying some essence berry juice for it to heal.
With the enchantment working on Logan's Adamantium skeleton, Fang Mo's thoughts wandered. He dragged Logan to the Tinker's Construct tool forge, embedded some redstone into his skeleton, and imprinted a cobalt trait.
Everyone knows Adamantium is strong but heavy, evident when Logan drives a car; it sinks significantly with him in it. Cobalt makes components lighter, and redstone adds speed, effectively reducing Adamantium's weight and easing Logan's movement. Fang Mo had chosen this combination thoughtfully.
"Phew, it's done." Fang Mo exhaled after the enhancement. Now, it was up to Logan to remember everything: "Now, time resumes."
As Fang Mo finished speaking, everything regained color. Logan, lying on the operating table, twitched, probably from the injury caused by the bullet removal. Fortunately, his healing factor kicked in, and he soon opened his eyes.
"You're awake..." Seeing Logan wake up, Fang Mo hurriedly greeted him.
Before he could finish, hurried footsteps echoed from the doorway. Darwin rushed in, pushing Charles, interrupting Fang Mo.
"Fang Mo, tell me honestly, did you push that hundred-kilometer-wide meteorite over here?" Charles asked directly.
