Chapter 688: Dark Phoenix Awakening
Chapter 688: Dark Phoenix Awakening
"Uh, that…"
Charles's expression was somewhat uneasy at this moment. "Fang Mo, can I trouble you with something?"
"No."
Fang Mo glanced at Charles. "Didn't you just say you wouldn't bother me?"
"That was just an accident."
Hearing Fang Mo's response, Charles hurriedly spoke up, "If you're unhappy, I can apologize immediately, but the situation is really urgent right now. You know the prophecy... you should be aware of what's happening, right?"
"I know."
Fang Mo nodded. "The Dark Phoenix has awakened, right?"
Since the plots of X-Men 1 and 2 had ended, Fang Mo was quite looking forward to X-Men 3. But to be honest, he didn't expect the plot to come so quickly.
X-Men 3: The Last Stand. As the final installment of the old X-Men trilogy, it tells the story of Jean losing control, leading to the X-Men paying a heavy price, and ultimately, Wolverine killing Jean in anguish.
If following the normal timeline, the plot of The Last Stand should occur several years later, right?
Due to the long time since he watched the movie, Fang Mo couldn't recall the exact timing. However, in his memory, when X-Men 2 was released, characters like Colossus and Kitty Pryde were still kids. Yet, in the next movie, they had grown into the new generation of X-Men.
Of course, it might also be because of a change in actors...
For instance, the first actress who played Kitty Pryde was a child. By the next movie, due to more screen time, they replaced her with a new actress, making it seem like she grew up instantly.
But in reality, only a few months had passed in the storyline.
However, Fang Mo couldn't remember clearly, given how old the movie was. It's already good enough that he could recall the general plot.
"You really know..."
Charles didn't know what Fang Mo was thinking and quickly said, "We must stop her immediately, or the consequences will be unimaginable!"
"Director Charles, did you make a mistake?"
Unlike the anxious Charles, Fang Mo thoughtfully touched his chin. "Do I need to remind you? I'm just here for fun, not your employee. Even though you're indeed paralyzed... you can't always expect me to clean up your mess, right?"
"I didn't say I wanted you to clean up my mess..."
"What! You're also wearing Biden's brand of adult diapers?" Fang Mo said in shock.
"I..."
Charles felt a splitting headache. Given the critical situation and with no one else around, he put aside his pride. "Fang Mo, I'm begging you, okay?"
"If I meet a beautiful woman on the road and say, 'Sis, you're hot. Please let me overtake you,' would she agree?"
Fang Mo spread his hands and asked.
"Uh..."
Hearing this, Darwin scratched his head instinctively. "If you're driving a gold-plated limited-edition supercar and are very handsome, she might agree."
"That's what I'm saying."
Fang Mo nodded and pointed at Charles. "Look at him... no supercar, no looks, just a bald old man in a wheelchair. If I were a beautiful woman, would I agree?"
"But Charles can mind-control."
Darwin found himself uncontrollably replying, "If he wants to..."
"Stop it, Darwin."
Charles facepalmed.
"Uh, sorry, Professor." Darwin realized his slip and quickly explained, "I lost control for a moment..."
"Forget it, I'll handle it myself."
Seeing this, Charles sighed. He had no other options now. Given the urgency, he couldn't waste too much time with Fang Mo.
In his view, the safest way was to use Fang Mo's power to suppress the Dark Phoenix and then seal her himself. But Fang Mo didn't seem willing to intervene, so he had to face it alone.
"Maybe we can ask Logan to seek Fang Mo's help?"
While thinking this, Charles also moved his wheelchair, intending to leave.
"Wait, Professor..."
However, at that moment, Darwin, who was responsible for pushing the wheelchair, seemed to suddenly sense something. His expression was puzzled and surprised, but he quickly bent down and whispered something into Charles's ear.
"Hmm?"
After hearing what Darwin said, Charles was also a bit surprised: "How did you know that?"
"I don't know, the thought just suddenly popped into my head," Darwin responded in a very low voice. "Anyway... Professor, do you want to give it a try?"
"..."
Charles was silent for a moment after hearing this.
However, he quickly frowned and made up his mind: "Darwin, you go out first."
"Yes, Professor."
Darwin nodded, turned around, and left the room, closing the door behind him.
"Fang Mo."
After Darwin left, Charles looked up at Fang Mo again. This time, his tone changed: "If a luxury car could really ensure my request is granted, then although I don't have a luxury car... but... but..."
At this point, Charles's expression showed some struggle.
But in the end, he gritted his teeth and said: "But what if I offer a golden toilet? I can..."
"What the hell?"
Fang Mo was visibly stunned upon hearing this. He wasn't stupid; he knew these were Darwin's words. He couldn't help but wipe his face: "No... is the Omega-level survival instinct really that powerful? Just concept-level adaptability?"
"So, you mean..."
Charles didn't continue, instead looking at Fang Mo expectantly.
"Alright."
Fang Mo thought for a moment and suddenly said, "I can help you with this, but the price is... you have to lick the golden toilet for me."
"Fine..."
Charles nodded with some difficulty.
In his memory, the toilet seemed to be brand new.
If it hadn't been used, licking it to save the world might not be that big of a deal, as long as no one saw it. Of course, if someone did see it, he could just erase their memory, a trick he knew well.
However, just as Charles made up his mind, Fang Mo suddenly burst out laughing.
Then, under Charles's gaze, a white light flashed, and Fang Mo disappeared. In his place was a young girl with white hair and red eyes, sitting on the golden toilet with her legs crossed, looking at him with an arrogant and smug expression.
"Oh no, that's not okay!"
Before Charles could react, the girl put her hands to her mouth and shouted loudly on purpose: "Professor, don't lick it, that's where you pee!"
"???"
Charles was completely dumbfounded.
"Still want to lick it?"
At that moment, the white-haired girl asked again: "Next time, I'll transform into Biden and say, 'No, Mr. Xavier, that's where I poop.'"
"I... this..."
Charles opened his mouth, but despite his extensive knowledge, he couldn't think of any words to respond to the scene in front of him.
After a long silence, he could only sigh deeply: "I always thought Raven was very rebellious, but now it seems she's really a good kid..."
"Hahahaha!!!"
Upon hearing this, the young white-haired girl across from him couldn't hold back any longer. She burst into laughter, her small white legs swinging back and forth. "Indeed, this is the correct use of shape-shifting abilities... This Raven is really too weak!"
After finishing his task, Fang Mo reverted to his original form in a flash of white light.
"Alright, I was just teasing you earlier."
Fang Mo stood up slowly, patting Charles on the shoulder with a smile. "I can help you deal with the Phoenix, but this thing seems pretty tough. If there's any collateral damage, don't blame me."
Indeed, Fang Mo wasn't lying about this part. From what he knew, the Phoenix was an immensely powerful entity, supposedly wielding multiversal-level power, connecting all life and consciousness. It could overshadow most characters and settings with ease.
Of course, as everyone knows, most elements in the film universe are significantly weakened. Take Magneto, for instance. In the comics, he could control planetary magnetic fields, essentially manipulating planetary rotation and maintaining eternal youth. Yet in the films, he was reduced to merely controlling metal, essentially a scrap collector.
Despite the Phoenix being weakened in the films, it could still destroy planets effortlessly. Fang Mo hadn't seen the Dark Phoenix movie but had heard enough from online forums where users claimed their relatives working at the film company saw leaked footage showing a planet being destroyed by the Phoenix. They boasted that the new Phoenix could at least reach star-destroying levels.
However, that was the new timeline's Phoenix. As for the old version, Fang Mo wasn't too sure. The plots of the two timelines diverged significantly, with the new version including a scene where the Phoenix absorbs cosmic energy in outer space, which the old version did not.
Fang Mo had watched the old timeline's version, which merely depicted Jean Grey's enormous power from a young age. It suggested she feared her abilities or for some other reason, creating a persona that Charles imprisoned within a mental cage. Over time, this persona became more twisted and dark, yearning for freedom as the Dark Phoenix.
If it came to a fight, Fang Mo certainly wouldn't fear her. After all, he was the formidable Cube Battle God, and if the original work could resolve it, so could he. If all else failed, he'd resort to brute force.
Fang Mo believed that the Phoenix power within Jean wasn't the full entity. A multiversal Phoenix should be able to destroy a universe, which Jean couldn't do, indicating either she possessed only a fragment or couldn't wield its full power.
The only problem now was if Fang Mo actually fought the Dark Phoenix, significant collateral damage would be inevitable.
"I understand. Just do your best," Charles said, showing his understanding and nodding. "We should proceed immediately."
"Okay," Fang Mo nodded and headed towards the door. Charles quickly maneuvered his wheelchair, and they both exited the room.
At the door, Darwin looked visibly uneasy upon seeing Charles. "Professor, earlier you..."
"Nothing happened," Charles interrupted. "Fang Mo agreed to help me, nothing more."
"Alright," Darwin replied, blinking. He wanted to mention that ever since he ate the apple Fang Mo gave him, his evolutionary ability had become excessively strong, even momentarily developing super hearing. But he decided against it, keeping the secret to himself, knowing Professor X had sacrificed much for the world.
With various thoughts on their minds, they soon reached the lounge. Previously, it had been mentioned that the so-called X Academy was actually Charles's mansion, divided into two sections: one for the mutant children's learning and living, and the other as the X-Men's base, equipped with high-tech facilities, a medical room, a lounge, and the Cerebro.
For safety reasons, every room had heavy metal doors. Thus, they decided to place the comatose Jean in the lounge for security.
However, upon arriving, they found the lounge destroyed. Everything inside was reduced to dust, and the heavy metal door was ripped apart and discarded like trash.
Jean had indeed awoken, but she looked down at her hand, holding a pair of broken glasses, in a seemingly poor state.
"Jean!" Charles called out. She momentarily snapped out of her daze, but her face quickly darkened as if recognizing him. Filled with hatred, she unleashed a massive psychic storm towards them.
