Chapter 1189: A bit of corruption (1)
With the interruption from the Five True Witches of the Sea, it took a bit longer for things to wrap up.
But when it was all over and everything was wrapped up, it seemed like things were even better than before.
All because of the Merman Academy idea, the two brothers seemed like they were much closer. The wall between them had broken and now they were talking like brothers again.
Though from time to time, it did seem like they argued over some things about the academy, but that was also part of what being a brother was.
Since I was the one that had brought them together, I also had no choice but to remain here a bit longer.
I could only apologize in my heart to Klein and the others that were still waiting for my return.
I had gone into the sea with the mermaids without even asking their opinion and had left them on Peace Island. I'm sure that they were worried right now, but this wasn't the time to go back just yet.
I still had to see this through to the end, as well as get my other relic from Aquaron.
I had been waiting the entire time to be summoned again by him, but it never happened. That just meant that the matter of reuniting the Merman Empire and the sea witches still wasn't finished yet. Or at least it wasn't finished yet in the eyes of the god.
Though there was a part of me that thought that this was just because Aquaron was lazy in the first place. After all, I had seen the way that he acted when we met, so it really seemed like this was the case...
Still, I persevered for the sake of the other relic.
I didn't even get to use the one that he gave me earlier, but it was still good to have more of these just in case.
It was never a bad idea to have more of these things just in case something happened.Nôv(el)B\\jnn
And it turned out that something did happen.
On my fourth day in the Merman Empire, two days after the matter of the Merman Academy had been settled, something big happened.
I didn't know about it right away since it seemed like they were keeping it from me. It seemed like it was an internal matter for the Merman Empire, so they didn't want me to know about it. Which was why the Merman King was called away for a private meeting during lunch.
When he came back, the look on his face wasn't good as he called for a private talk with the former crown prince.
Then after the two of them finished talking, they called me in as well.
The three of us went to a private room and sat down to talk, but it didn't seem like either of them were willing to say a single thing with the way that they sat there in silence. It was as if there was something that was weighing on their mind that stopped them from saying what they wanted to say.
I had no idea what was happening since there was no knowledge from the game that could have prepared me for this.
So all I could do was wait for either of them to say anything.
In the end, the Merman King said with a sigh, "Something has happened."
I looked at him with a slightly bitter smile when I heard this.
It was obvious that something had happened based on the way that they were acting, so saying this really didn't give me any information at all.
It annoyed me even more that right after saying this, he went back to being silent.
Both the Merman King and the former crown prince had looks of deep thought on their faces, as if there was something that was weighing on their minds.
I finally couldn't take it anymore and said, "Just what is it? Tell me already instead of keeping me in the dark like this."
The two of them were pulled out of their thoughts and looked at me with surprised looks.
It was clear that they didn't expect me to suddenly say something like this, but they weren't offended by it either.
The two of them looked back at each other as if they were confirming something before the Merman King reached out under the table to pull out some seaweed. He reached his hand out and showed that seaweed to me.
"Corruption? What does that mean?" I asked in a confused voice after reading the report that was written on the seaweed.
It didn't seem to make any sense at all since it just said that there were traces of corruption that were found.
It didn't mention what kind of corruption, it just called it corruption.
Neither the Merman King or the former crown prince said anything when they heard this. They once again looked at each other as if they were confirming something with each other. It was only after they nodded at the same time that they turned back and the Merman King said, "The corruption is something that only those in the royal family and those that serve the royal family know about. It's something that hasn't happened in a long time, but the royal family has records of the past that mentions the corruption."
"That still doesn't tell me what the corruption is..." I said with a bitter tone in my voice.
The Merman King once again hesitated for a moment before taking a deep breath to say, "The reason we can't tell you what the corruption is is because we don't know what it is either."
"Huh?" A surprised and confused look appeared on my face when I heard this.
The Merman King ignored this look of mine as he continued, "All we know is that this corruption has the power to erode things and take away the life energy of living things. It destroys plants and other living things that it comes in contact with, which is why it's a disaster if it appears."
