Chapter 723: Psychological Effects

[Congratulations to the player ‘TheBoss’, for successfully defeating Master Arlen (Lv734) who is one of the game’s world bosses.

You have gained

+2 levels

+1 broken rangers bow (Semi-Legendary)

+1 Full heal potion

+1 Quiver of arrows (Unique) ]

Leo received a system message informing him of all the loot he had obtained from killing Arlen, however, he ignored all of the items mentioned on the list, emptying them from his inventory apart from the Full Heal potion.

Leo was not a hoarder, and having no use for a broken Bow and a quiver of arrows, he decided to leave it all behind for some lucky passerby to find, as although he understood that the bow and arrows had quite a lot of value attached to them, he simply did not care.

He did not lack funds at the slightest within the game and understood that a couple hundred thousand coins here or there were not going to change his life.

*Gulp*

Focusing instead on the arrow embedded in his chest, Leo decided to remove it while he gulped down the Full heal potion, to quickly get rid of the injuries ailing his battered body.

“What a fucking day….” he mumbled, after finishing the drink, as he wiped off the last drop from over his chin and smacked it onto the dry ground below.

Immediately, he began feeling the effects of the potion as his wounds began to heal up, and soon, the injury warning that flashed on his gaming screen, warning him that he was bleeding constantly, faded away, in-turn opening-up the option for him to log-out atlast.

“Level 992…. Not bad” Leo jested before he logged out, as he felt proud with the results of this last endeavor overall.

As soon as Leo put aside the VR helmet, he felt a wave of mental fatigue instantly hit him, as his head felt much heavier than usual as if it were filled with lead.

“I’ve been playing this game non-stop for over 5 days now. This is without a doubt my longest gaming run yet” Leo observed, as immediately a wave of thirst and hunger hit him.

In the five days where he had been playing Terra Nova Online non-stop, his bodily functions had apparently taken a hit.

His clothes smelled disgusting, as his body was forced to eliminate waste buildups through the sweat pores, and his stomach felt rumbling and shrunken from its usual size from not receiving a single grain of food in five days.

Thankfully, he was a master level warrior now and not a weak human, for he could bear longer stints of hunger better than normal humans, who would look pale and weak after not eating for 5 days.

“Where’s the damn water?” He wondered, as he walked into the kitchen and placed his mouth directly under the faucet that produced drinking water.

*Gulp*

*Gulp*

Drinking like a maniac, he drank at least a couple liters of water before finally being satiated, as only then did he pause to take in a deep breath.

*GASP*

Gasping loudly, Leo chuckled as he finally understood the downside of gaming for too long, as without nourishment pipes connected to the players bodies, continuing to play for days was not a feasible option.

“All the nutrients in my body must have been redirected to my brain for the past 5 days. However, once I ran out of those, my in-game performance was sure to dip.

I’d say my current limit is 7 days, if I’m to ever try going this long without a break again” Leo calculated, as he moved over to the fridge and began devouring the raw fruits and vegetables within, without a care in the world about the mess he left behind.

*Crunch*

*Crush*

Eating haphazardly, he swallowed anything edible he could get his hands at, as the hunger in his stomach only seemed to flare after he took the first bite of food.

As he devoured the contents of the fridge like a starved beast, Leo’s mind began to clear. The fog of exhaustion from five days of non-stop gaming slowly lifted, replaced by a sharp, cold clarity that only came from pushing his body to the edge.

His hands trembled slightly—not from weakness, but from the bloodlust still coursing through his veins after his intense battle with Master Arlen, as despite the battle being over, Leo still felt unnaturally aggressive for no reason.

“What’s wrong with me? I’m back home… Then why am I still craving blood? Why do I have the urge to pull out a dagger and start hacking away at a body….. I need to calm down…” Leo said, looking at his trembling hands, as he tried to get a grip on himself.

For a while, his hands did not stop trembling, however, after a lot of conscious effort, he returned back to normal, with the bloodlust leaving him, as he began to eat once more at a normal pace.

Having just engaged in a large-scale massacre, Leo found himself battling with the psychological aftermath of that event, as it seemed to have left a scar on his brain.

Surprisingly, he did not feel guilty about his actions, even though he did murder a child, as instead he felt proud of the fact that he went against so many men and still walked out alive in what he assessed to be a broken state of mind.

Instead of worrying over what he had done, he felt a sense of pride and satisfaction in his work that was morally wrong on many modern earth levels.

“I finally understand why historic gods and kings were such insufferable pricks…. Once you begin to feel invincible, it’s really impossible to restrain your desires” Leo noted, as he opened and closed his palm while breathing deeply.

Today, he was feeling invincible, however, he did not wish to turn into a prick, and hence after introspecting he immediately began to backtrack.

It took a lot of mental tempering for him to return to his usual humble, family loving state of mind, however, thankfully he managed to do so before Amanda walked into the kitchen, as before her, he only presented his best self.

“Ohhh? What the hell love, you’ve made a complete mess here…. Hahaha” Amanda noted, walking into the kitchen, as she noticed Leo’s crude way of eating food and could not contain her laughter.

Smiling back, Leo threw away the half eaten apple and rushed to embrace her, opening his wide arms.
