Chapter 62 - WHO IS MONICA?
Once again, Kris froze because of his lover's words. The words were not icy, but they froze his tongue. He even forgot how to blink as he continued to stare at the young scientist with wide eyes.
Kevin was patiently waiting for an answer. His twin beads stared boldly at Kris. He challenged the taller man. He wanted to show Kris that he was not weak, that he was strong enough to solve a complicated puzzle.
Kevin was tired of Kris's overprotectiveness toward him. Kris was always acting like a shield for him. He felt like he was on the battlefield with Kris. He was the General, and Kris was merely a shield that would protect him from the enemy's arrow.
No, he didn't want to have that kind of relationship with Kris. He wanted to stand at the same level as Kris. He wanted Kris to be a General with him, and they would defeat the enemy together.
That was why Kevin stepped forward and didn't let Kris sacrifice himself for him.
It seemed that Kevin's determination was enough to melt Kris's heart. The werewolf sighed before he replied, "Mrs. Nierling said that your power is a good power that will help us in the future, but she didn't tell me the details. That's why I was hesitant to tell you about that. I knew that you would be even more curious after knowing the mysterious answer."
It was Kevin's turn to transform into a stone. 'A good power that will help us in the future?' He couldn't help but wonder in his heart.
Kris was right. The lady's further answer only made him even more puzzled. What would be happening in the future that he needed the power to help them?
"She also told to me to let you know that you don't need to feel scared of the power," the werewolf spoke again after he got no response from the other man.
Kevin broke free from his reverie after he heard Kris's words. "How can I not feel scared? The power suddenly appeared without me knowing its origin. Didn't she explain where the power came from and why it was in my body?"
Kris paused for a moment, seemingly trying to think of the right answer to the young scientist's question.
"About that..." Kris looked like he was in a doubt. "Mrs. Nierling said that she will explain it to you herself after Blue comes back to us."
Kevin looked at Kris in skepticism. "I have to wait until Blue comes back to us? But, what if Blue wouldn't come back? What if until the end, Blue chose to stay with the werewolves? I wouldn't get an answer until the end either?" Asked the young man with a hint of frustration.
Again, Kris saw a scene where Kevin looked very desperate. He moved his body to embrace the fragile young man, but his body was pushed away by the young scientist.
"I'm going to see Mother Monica right now and ask for an explanation in person."
Kris's eyes widened when suddenly Kevin got up from his bed. The werewolf's reflex was so fast that he immediately grabbed Kevin's arm and hugged the latter afterward.
Kevin rebelled, but Kris's strength surpassed his, so he couldn't escape the werewolf's arms. He decided to stop struggling even if his heart felt heavy in Kris's embrace.
"Mrs. Nierling is out of town right now," Kris whispered right beside Kevin's ear. "If you don't want to trust me, then you just need to trust Blue. Trust her that she will definitely come back. Aren't you the person who knows Blue the most?"
"How can Blue come back to us if we don't save her?" Kevin asked in a trembling voice.
Kris didn't answer his question right away. He just stared blankly at the marble floor while his arms still hugging the young scientist.
"I don't know," the werewolf finally answered in a murmur. "I just trust Blue, and you better trust her as well. I'm her uncle, and you are her big brother. If we don't trust her, then who will trust her?"
Kevin's tears finally spilled after he heard Kris's soft words beside his ear. He then returned Kris's hug tightly and continued to cry.
The raven-haired man was not weak. He rarely cried and always succeeded in putting on a strong image of him. But, even a strong man could also cry. Even a strong man could also feel despair. He was still a human with heart, after all.
At this time, Kevin was really disoriented. At first, he thought that he only needed to focus on finding Blue, but suddenly he had to face the fact that he had a mysterious power that came from nowhere.
There was fear in Kevin's heart. He was terrified that the power would harm many people, and he was afraid that the power would hurt humans. Even though Monica Nierling told Kris that the power was a good power that wouldn't hurt him, it didn't mean that the power would cause no harm to other people.
Moreover, Kevin felt that there were still many secrets he didn't know and that inevitably made him feel even more frightened.
After hugging for a few minutes, Kris finally loosened his hug to see Kevin's condition. Kevin's eyes were puffy, and his handsome face was also wet with tears. Kris raised his hands to erase the trail of tears on his lover's face.
"You are a man, but why are you crying so easily?" Asked the werewolf with a mocking tone.
Kevin hit Kris in the chest in annoyance after hearing the werewolf taunts.
After being satisfied to let out his frustration, Kevin raised his hands to touch Kris's two big hands that were still on his cheeks. "Last night, I forgot to ask you one thing," he said. "Have you known Mother Monica for a long time? Even before you met me?"
The question that was just asked by the genius scientist made Kris's body a little tense. He thought their conversation about werewolves, the mysterious powers, and things related to it could be ended with a hot make-out session, but it wasn't that easy. In fact, the black-haired man re-opened the topic of conversation that was briefly closed.
The werewolf answered, albeit a little reluctant, "Yes, I have known Mrs. Nierling for a long time, long before I met you."
Kevin had expected the answer, so he believed it right away. He was certain that Kris didn't lie right now.
"Then, both of you have planned all of this for a long time? Including our first meeting when your car broke down, then your first meeting with Blue, until you finally adopted Blue. Is it all part of your plan?"
Kris was now like a suspect being interrogated by a police officer. He wanted to pull his hand away from Kevin's face, but the scientist held his hand firmly, reluctant to let go of it before Kris gave him an answer.
"You are right. All of that is part of our plan."
Finally, Kevin let go of Kris's hand as he laughed bitterly. Not only was Kris acting, but the head of the orphanage was even doing the same thing. The two people played their respective roles perfectly.
He remembered the series of events that have occurred since he met with Kris, and he realized that from the start, he was not suspicious of Kris at all. Blue was, but he wasn't. The young man now realized that he had trusted Kris completely from the beginning.
"But, we both planned it all for—"
"For our good?"
Kevin quickly interrupted Kris's words, giving no chance for the werewolf to finish his sentence.
"You always say that, Kris. I'm tired of hearing that. Can you give me another, more creative reason?" Kevin asked in a muffled tone.
Kris was like a broken cassette that kept repeating the same melody. At first, Kevin was okay to hear the melody, but when the cassette played it over and over again, he finally got bored and tired of it.
Kris sighed loudly, then replied, "We planned to save Blue from being targeted by werewolves. I was given the task of protecting Blue so that she's safe, but there was no way I could go straight to her for that. Moreover, we knew that Blue had a cold character to other people. That's why we planned all of those scenarios."
Kevin listened carefully to Kris's explanation, and then he laughed morosely. "You used to tell me that you never intended to use me, but in fact, you used me, Kris."
Kris could only lower his head deeply when he heard the scientist's deadly attack. "I'm sorry," he said in a tone full of regret.
Kevin didn't respond for a long time. His eyes just continued to gawk at Kris, who until now was still looking down as if he was reluctant to make eye contact with him.
The young scientist then sighed and asked, "Who exactly is Mother Monica?"
