Chapter 55 - 55 A Ball and Chain
55 A Ball and Chain
She knew in her heart that although she had not recovered her previous athletic level after so many days of training, it was not a problem for her to run 800 meters. The problem was that there were many female students in the school who often participated in sports training.
Before the third lap had even ended, there were already two people who were leading far ahead.
He Miao gave up on chasing after the two. As long as she could maintain her current ranking, she could still score for her class as the top three in the competition.
She steadied her breathing and sped up a little to put a certain distance between her and the athlete behind her. Then, she continued to move forward at a constant speed.
He Miao’s arms were sore from swinging around. She laughed bitterly to himself. It seemed like she really had to come up with a fitness plan in the future. Her body was too weak.
When she was engrossed in making perfumes, she would occasionally forget to eat and sleep. With the current physical strength of this body, she was afraid that it could not withstand her super-intense work.
Thinking of making perfumes, He Miao’s thoughts gradually drifted away. Her arms swung mechanically by her side, and she actually forgot her fatigue for a moment.
A shout beside her startled He Miao. She turned her head in confusion and saw Jing Yan running. He was standing by the side of the track, keeping pace with her and taking photos of her with his phone.
He Miao was so startled by him that her breathing became erratic. A sudden pain from her lower left abdomen slowed down her speed. Seeing that she was about to be overtaken by the people behind her, He Miao gritted her teeth and endured the pain to speed up.
Jing Yan could see the pain on her face. He frowned and put down his phone, but still ran with her. “Adjust your breathing, don’t rush.”
You still have the nerve to say adjust your breathing!
He Miao glared at him hatefully. If he had not suddenly appeared and scared her, she would not have gasped for air when she was about to sprint.
Even someone as cold as she could not help but feel angry. When she heard the commotion around him because of his sudden appearance, He Miao cursed under her breath, “Ball and chain.” She looked away and treated him like air.
Jing Yan was bewildered by her glare. He knew that he was being despised, so he pursed his lips and turned his head away unhappily, looking straight ahead and refusing to look at her.
However, his footsteps did not stop at all. He had made up his mind to accompany her to the end of the run.
He had accompanied her for so many nights, so there was no reason for him to be absent from the official competition.
He Miao closed her eyes. There was only one lap left in the race, and the two people who were leading far ahead had already finished half the lap.
The soreness in her abdomen had eased quite a bit. He Miao kept running a few steps, making sure that the discomfort was negligible. She composed herself, then suddenly sped up and rushed out.
Xu Meng had been watching anxiously from the side of the track. When she saw that He Miao still had the energy to sprint, she jumped up in excitement.
“Good luck, goddess!” She had been shouting the words the entire time. Her voice was a little hoarse now, but she still jumped around tirelessly. When He Miao passed by her, she led the entire class to cheer for her loudly.
The first place runner had already crossed the finish line, but the second place runner was clearly exhausted, and her speed was starting to drop.
He Miao gritted her teeth and roughly estimated that the distance between her and second place was only 60 meters.
She hardened her heart and used the last of her strength to speed up. Her competitive spirit was completely awakened by the atmosphere of the scene.
There were only a hundred meters left.
He Miao clutched her aching abdomen from the acceleration. She gritted her teeth and maintained her fastest speed. When she was only one step away from the finish line, her legs suddenly gave way and she pounced at the finish line. She finally overtook the runner-up at the last second and took second place.
Everything happened in the blink of an eye. Before Jing Yan could react, He Miao’s body suddenly fell forward, and her knee hit the track hard.
“He Miao!” Jing Yan rushed over anxiously. Before the others could surround them, he picked up He Miao and ran straight to the infirmary.
There was a lot of sand and small stones deeply embedded in her knee. The teacher from the Hospital Administration Department carefully picked them out one by one.
He Miao was in so much pain that she sucked in a breath of cold air, but there was not a single tear in her eyes.
Jing Yan frowned as he stood to the side, looking at the woman who was trying to be brave in front of him. A strange feeling suddenly flashed through his heart, but it disappeared in a flash. Before he could feel it in detail, the pain in his heart disappeared completely.
“I’m going to disinfect your wound now. It’s going to hurt, so bear with it,” The medical teacher said in a gentle voice.
The moment the alcohol touched her wound, He Miao’s nose suddenly turned sour, and her entire body trembled in pain.
