The Villain's Little Cat

Chapter 122

122 The Abandoned Research Base

Swish!

The crystals were recovered and Kate put them all on Kyle’s other hand. They were of various color but neither one of them was black like the previous one. Instead, they looked like the crystals that they could find in giant mutated animals.

Kyle’s eyes narrowed. “It seems that both humans and giant mutated animals have similar cores.”

Kate glanced at these cores and sighed deeply.

She didn’t actually want to see the scene of the massacre, so she was grateful that Kyle was covering her eyes and ears. Well, she could see the white dots were diminishing, but the visual impact was naturally lower with that.

“Just like we can advance with these cores, it seems that giant mutated animals can also advance by swallowing the cores. That might be the reason why a lot of giant mutated animals are fighting against themselves.” Lotte shook her head and sighed.

Be it in this world or before the mutation changed, the strong would try to swallow the weak just like these giant mutated animals were trying to swallow those who were weak and couldn’t protect themselves.

“Right.” Jake nodded dumbly.

“Let’s go. We’re attracting more attention if we stay here.” Kyle glanced to the rearview mirror and saw that the people in the gas station was attracted by the noise here. It wouldn’t take long before this matter spread if they continued to stay here.

.....

“Would it be fine for them to see us?” Lotte’s expression changed. She didn’t want to be the enemies of the humanities.

“They can’t see us. I have removed our car’s plate and the mirrors are all one side.” Jake grinned. “Well, I can do some modification for the car next if you want to continue stay anonymous.”

With his metal control, these little things were very easy. It was also because of it that Jake was not worried in the slightest bit about these people watching them.

“You can change the shape a bit later.” Kyle glanced at Jake. “But don’t modify too much or we wouldn’t be able to fit inside.”

“I know, I know, I’m not a car destroyer, alright?”

“You’ll be a good car repairer with your metal control.” Kyle nodded.

Jake was speechless.

Lotte laughed and even nodded in agreement. “Right, your ability is indeed very useful. Does your metal ability have any restriction? From what I know, there are several types of metal such as steel, iron, or maybe gold?”

“I certainly couldn’t control gold. As for metals, I think that it’s mostly those that contain anything made out of iron and steel.” Jake thought to himself. He didn’t pay much attention because he just felt the strong connection to these metals.

There were some that he only felt little connection with, so he guessed that even those of metal elements have specific metals they were compatible with.

“Hmm, that’s interesting.” Lotte’s eyes shone with interest.

“Yeah.” Jake raised his head proudly.

After they had got away from the area, Lotte asked the question she wanted to know the most. “So, do you know those people?”

“They’re people whom we cooperate with for the previous mission. There’s an incident in which a horde of giant mutated animals is attracted and caused many of their members to die. They might hold a grudge because we’re faster than them.” Jake shrugged.

In fact, it was quite normal that these people bore grudge. Kyle and the others were able to run faster because they were not after the last three granaries. However, these three groups were unable to run as fast as the others.

Thanks to the giant mutated animals, their number was greatly reduced.

They could only submit the mission and left City B because the other members’ family members were chasing after them. They were naturally there to find explanation from them.

But what could they say?

That their luck was so bad that they encountered giant mutated animals when they were doing mission?

From the very moment they did mission, it was already certain that there would be risk involved. There was no way that everyone would be able to go home safely without anyone dying when countless giant mutated animals are rampaging outside.

It was just people were used to blame others but themselves. These people from Rodent Group knew that it was the fault of giant mutated animals, but they just needed a place to vent. And Black Group ended up being one of the targets.

Thus, this incident happened.

Lotte sighed. “Humans only show their true nature when they’re experiencing life and death option. And not everyone can accept the reality so quickly when it’s so bitter.”

Jake turned around and reached out his hand to pat his girlfriend’s head. “Don’t worry so much. We’ll never leave you.”

“You better be.” Lotte looked at Jake and smiled.

Dylan pretended that he didn’t hear anything and focused on the road.

On the other hand, Kyle rubbed his forehead. He seemed to have forgotten that the only drawback when traveling with both Jake and Lotte were the fact that these two were in love with each other very much.

It was good that their relationship was good.

But the sprinkle of dog food could be a little too much. Everything they talked about could actually end up in them having served dog food from these two.

It was truly...

Only Kate was watching the two of them with interest. Alright, she had to admit that she liked to watch these kind of real life drama. As for herself, she would pretend that she didn’t exist and solely being here just to watch them.

The next journey was smooth.

Aside from the occasional talk about things that occurred in City C, which were actually not much different from City A, they continued their way. When it was afternoon, they finally spot the Abandoned Research Base that was mentioned before.

It was just...

“Are you sure that this is the correct location?” Jake looked at the warehouse in front of him and felt that this couldn’t be a research institute, right?

It looked no different from a normal farmer’s warehouse that Jake felt that he was given the wrong map by these people. There was no way he would believe that this place in front of him was truly the place they were supposed to go and check right now.

“No, this is the place.” Kyle glanced at the warehouse and nodded.

“Really?” Jake was stupefied. He thought that the research institute would be like the one in the City B where everyone can tell at a glance that it was indeed the research institute. But this place looked like... an abandoned warehouse.

Worse, he didn’t think that anyone would want to live here.

“This is a secret research base.” Kyle was more knowledgeable because he was part of the researcher community. This was a place that he had visited once in the past and also felt a bit puzzled when he first came here.

But when he found out what was being researched, he understood why this place was being kept secret. It contained state weapons and everything that should never be revealed to the public unless it was absolutely necessary.

And this time, what they wanted to take out was the weapon that could help humanities to kill these giant mutated animals. It was a dangerous weapon that was still in the state of research, but there was not much time for hesitation.

They needed these to deal with the giant mutated animals before these giant mutated animals grew so much that they couldn’t be dealt with.

“A secret research base, huh? Why not the military sent someone who are more experienced or more related to the military here, then?” Jake felt that it was strange.

“There are already a lot of people sent here including several high ranked military officers.” Kyle had read the documents that his father showed to him. He knew very well the high vitality rate of those people who dared to take this mission.

“Eh?” Lotte was stunned. “Then...”

“Not a single one of them returned.”

That sentence caused the temperature to drop. Even Kate felt chills on her back when she heard Kyle’s words. She thought that this would be an ordinary mission, but to think that the mission was actually this dangerous.

“Meow...”

Lotte looked at Kate and felt that she and the cat was actually thinking the same thing. They were not that brave as these three and would not dare to put their lives on the line so easily.

“What is in here that attracted them so much?” Jake asked, gulping down his saliva to hide his nervousness.

“Weapons that used the power of elements. But they’re built before the mutation occurred so at that time, their power is quite considerable.” Kyle pursed his lips but didn’t explain further to the others.
