“I don’t want it too but we can’t lose the company just because of a baby.” Gao Jingqiu gritted his teeth and said, “Listen to me—you’re still early in the pregnancy, and getting the abortion now won’t have too big of an effect on you. There will be chances for a child in the future. I won’t mistreat you.”

Yu Keyao could not stop shaking her head. She knew that once she aborted the baby, she would no longer matter to Gao Jingqiu. He would just marry another girl from a good family and have kids—why would he need her to give birth to a bastard child?

“Young Master Mu, Young Master Mu, I beg you. Please don’t make me abort the child. I promise I won’t talk back to Miss Mu ever again. Just let me have the baby. Young Master Mu, have mercy, we were once... once... Seeing that we were once a couple, have mercy and let me keep the child please!” Yu Keyao begged. She tried to pull Mu Huaisheng’s hand but he shifted away.

“Miss Yu, I’m afraid you misunderstood. We were never a thing. We were just two adults engaging in pleasure, nothing more,” Mu Huaisheng said coldly. He studied Yu Keyao. “How did Zhang Zhenlong know the email addresses of our company employees, I keep wondering.”

“Mu Huaisheng!” Yu Keyao screamed. “You’re not human!”

It seemed that Mu Huaisheng knew Yu Keyao was the one who gave the email addresses to Zhang Zhenlong, which was why he was exacting revenge now. It was not simply because she was carrying Gao Jingqiu’s child.

Mu Huaisheng’s expression did not change. That delicate and scholarly face wore a gentle expression as the man took a step back and let the nurses push Yu Keyao into the operating theater.

Some time later, an unconscious Yu Keyao was wheeled out of the room. Her face was white as a sheet. From then onward, Yu Keyao no longer had any hope. She could not even muster the strength to turn in her bed.

Gao Jingqiu and Mu Sisi signed the divorce papers. The two families bartered the family company shares that were previously exchanged during the marriage.

The alliance between their families was initially proposed for mutual benefits but in the end, none of them gained anything. Instead, losses were made.

When the Mu family first entered the business scene, they announced a marriage with the Gao family. It was the hot topic picked up by every media station. Who knew that it would end in such a tragedy.

...

A month later, Song Yu and Qi Chengzhi brought Little Youjin to a baby swimming class. After they were done, Youjin was placed into the baby stroller and pushed along in the mall.

Little Youjin was growing rapidly—there would be a new development every month. They would be able to buy some new season’s clothing for the baby today.

After picking out the clothes for Youjin, Qi Chengzhi brought Song Yu to the women’s section. He wanted to buy some clothes for her even though she had way too many clothes at home, some still had their price tags on. Yet, no matter what Song Yu said, Qi Chengzhi was adamant.

Song Yu noticed that Qi Chengzhi was becoming a shopaholic. He could not stop buying things for her and baby Youjin.

After Little Youjin’s birth, the photo wall in their living room was filled within weeks. Even the walls along the stairs were almost filled.

Yesterday night, as Qi Chengzhi was nailing a photo to the wall, he said, “Maybe we should move to a bigger house? A three-story mansion maybe. Else, this wall may no longer be enough.”

Song Yu was speechless.

After buying her clothes, Song Yu pushed Little Youjin along while Qi Chengzhi carried the multiple shopping bags. The feeling of spending his hard-earned money on his wife and kid made Qi Chengzhi feel incredibly blessed.

As they strolled, they saw Fang Anci and Mu Sisi walking in their direction.

The news of Mu Sisi’s intimate photos had died down but the failed marriage between her and Gao Jingqiu was still the talk of the town. Mu Sisi had on a pair of sunglasses and a cap even though she was inside the mall. Only the lower half of her face was visible.

Song Yu only recognized half-hidden Mu Sisi because of her frequent harassment from before.

Mu Sisi was also shocked to see them, her footsteps coming to a halt. As she was wearing sunglasses, her expression was not visible. She glanced at Qi Chengzhi and was surprised to see him carrying so many shopping bags—conflicting with his usual cool persona.

Then, Mu Sisi shuffled behind Fang Anci with her head lowered, as if afraid to face Qi Chengzhi.

Meanwhile, Qi Chengzhi had on his trademark stoic expression when he saw Mu Sisi.

Mu Sisi tugged at Fang Anci’s arm. Her mother turned around and guided Mu Sisi away, not bothering to greet Qi Chengzhi and Song Yu.

Seeing Mu Sisi’s panicked retreat, Song Yu sighed.

“What’s wrong? Feeling pity for her?” Both of Qi Chengzhi’s hands were occupied so he could not hold Song Yu’s hand. He could only raise his eyebrows at her.

“Not really. Isn’t there a saying about people who are pitied are likely to be hated as well? If she didn’t do all those awful things before, she wouldn’t have ended up where she is now. Just wondering why she did all those things. She had a good life and a good family, it shouldn’t be hard to have a good marriage. Yet she was busy chasing after something that couldn’t be. In the process, she lost so many things and tortured herself to this point.” Song Yu remembered those hectic, chaotic days and felt relieved that it was over.

In the past, Mu Sisi was a force to be reckoned with. She was proud and savage, never bowing down to anyone. Now, she was nothing but a shell of her former self as she hid her face from the rest of the world.

“Stop thinking about it.” Qi Chengzhi could not provide Song Yu with any physical reassurance but he gave her lips a soft peck. “Let’s go back to the family house. Youxuan has been talking non-stop about bringing his dad and stepmom back.”

Song Yu nodded and followed Qi Chengzhi to the parking lot. When she looked at the stroller, she found Little Youjin’s eyes wide open as he gurgled happily to the background music of the mall. His stubby arms swayed in the air while his hands remained clenched.

The couple took baby Youjin back to the family manor. Qi Chengzhi moved the shopping bags into the car trunk and retrieved a storage box that contained the baby’s toys.

For the sake of Little Youjin, Qi Chengzhi would always have a disinfected storage box filled with toys in the car trunk. No matter where they went with Qi Youjin, he could bring out some toys for his son.

Aunt Ge was walking past the manor’s gate and ran into the couple. She greeted them enthusiastically, “Chengzhi, Song Yu, back with your son?”

Song Yu greeted back warmly while Qi Chengzhi just gave her a faint smile and nod.

Aunt Ge said, “Look, Little Youjin is growing up to be so handsome. Clearly inherited the best of you both. I’ve never seen a baby this good-looking all my life. He’s going to be a charmer next time.”

Qi Chengzhi still had that calm, steady look but his eyes gleamed with happiness. The edges of his lips twitched. He adjusted his shirt collar proudly, his glee palpable.

“To be fair, we both have great features so Youjin can take after any part of us. Even if he doesn’t, he wouldn’t have any disadvantage,” Qi Chengzhi said lightly.

Song Yu stayed quiet.

Who could be this shameless to say such a thing?

Aunt Ge also did not know how to reply.

She never realized how thick-faced the eldest grandchild of the Qi family was despite knowing them for thirty odd years.

Aunt Ge could only smile and agree with him. Then, she left them to carry on.

The couple brought baby Youjin into the house. In the house, Grandfather Qi and Grandmother Qi were in high spirits. Guan Liya and Qi Zhongxun were smiling widely while Xia Wenna and Qi Zhongliang stood aside with a happy look.

“Grandpa, Grandma, Dad, Mom, Uncle, Auntie,” Song Yu greeted each of them. “Why are you guys so happy?”

“Chengyue, tell them.” Guan Liya gently nudged Qi Chengyue. Qi Chengyue seemed ecstatic, expectant, and anxious altogether.

Her eyes flitted to Cheng Dongge and a sweet smile graced her face. Cheng Dongge held her hand in a solid grip.

“I’m pregnant.” Qi Chengyue squeezed Cheng Dongge’s hand. “We went to the hospital for a check-up this morning.”

“Congratulations!” Song Yu said in a high-pitched voice. Her excitement surprised Little Youjin.

The tone was a happy one so Little Youjin was not frightened. He was infected by the joyous atmosphere and wiggled happily in Song Yu’s arms, laughter spilling out in gurgles.

“It has been one good news after another.” Grandmother Qi took baby Youjin into her lap and started playing with her great-grandson. She was lucky that she would soon be able to have three great-grandchildren. With some effort, she might be able to carry a few more. The thought made her happy beyond belief.

“Baby Youjin’s birth followed by Chengyue’s pregnancy. And Chenglin is bringing his wife back. So much good news for the family,” Grandmother Qi said laughingly. “Bliss for the family!”

The family manor was filled with smiles and laughter.
