Chapter 90

Chapter 90 - Second Layer of Body Refining

The energy orb was incredibly pure, devoid of any specific attributes.

That meant Ye Hao could absorb it freely.

As Ye Hao absorbed the orb, he felt his cultivation level soar. In just a short span, his cultivation reached the peak of the first layer.

Caught off guard, Ye Hao felt the energy orb challenging his limits.

A loud noise erupted from within him, and in the next instant, his cultivation smoothly advanced to the second layer of the Body Refining Realm.

Ye Hao was momentarily taken aback.

But he quickly severed his connection with the energy orb.

“The level of this energy orb must be exceedingly high. I'll save it for when my cultivation is stronger,” Ye Hao decided, not wanting to squander the orb prematurely.

Next, Ye Hao retrieved the Cosmos Bag gifted to him by Su Xiaoyu.

Upon refining the Cosmos Bag, his Divine Sense entered a space that spanned approximately 27 cubic meters.

Ye Hao was quite content with this space, as it could store numerous items.

Inside the Cosmos Bag were a thousand spirit stones and three bottles of panaceas.

Ye Hao picked up a stone tablet next to the panaceas.

The tablet meticulously detailed the effects of the three elixirs.

The first was a Qi-nourishing Pill, which could halve the duration spent in the Body Refining Realm. The second was a Fasting Pill, allowing one to go without food for a month. The third was a healing potion.

Ye Hao's attention settled on the healing potion.

“Could the healing potion cure Lan Qingqing's condition?” he wondered aloud.

Yet, given the state of their relationship, Ye Hao let out a soft sigh.

They could never revert to how things once were.

After organizing his items, Ye Hao used a spirit stone to reinforce his cultivation.

Tang Pianpian had slept for a full twelve hours before awakening.

She had been lacking proper rest for some time.

Ye Hao had channeled a surge of vital spirit into Tang Pianpian, which would sustain her for three days.

But when the three days passed, Tang Pianpian still felt the urge to sleep at her usual bedtime.

Tang Pianpian was afraid to sleep.

She was acutely aware that the moment she drifted off, the Nightmare Incarnate would seize her. Despite her resistance, after three days, exhaustion took over, and she succumbed to sleep, only to be immediately haunted by the Nightmare Incarnate. Fearing further torment, Tang Pianpian vowed not to sleep again, yet today, she once more fell asleep.

Had Ye Hao not awakened in time, Tang Pianpian would have continued to endure the Nightmare Incarnate's torture.

“Are you awake?” Ye Hao asked, his voice warm with a smile.

“Are you okay?” Tang Pianpian quickly inquired upon seeing Ye Hao.

“I'm fine,” Ye Hao confirmed with a nod.

“That's a relief.” Overwhelmed with emotion, Tang Pianpian embraced Ye Hao, tears streaming down her cheeks.

Ye Hao gently soothed her, patting her back. “Don't worry.”

“Promise me you won't take any more risks, okay?”

“I'll do my best.”

“Can't you just lie to me?” Tang Pianpian's eyes brimmed with tears.

“You've always said I've never lied to you. How could I start now?” Ye Hao said, his smile gentle.

“Sometimes I wish you would.”

“Say it once more.”

“Alright.” Tang Pianpian cleared her throat. “Promise me, no more risks, okay?”

“Okay, no more risks,” Ye Hao agreed.

“Let's make it a pact,” Tang Pianpian suggested, extending her hand.

Ye Hao took Tang Pianpian's hand in his.

“We've agreed, no more risks from now on,” Tang Pianpian declared earnestly.

Ye Hao listened to her solemn words and reached out to tidy her disheveled hair.

“There are some things that can't be avoided simply because I wish to.”

“The greater your power, the greater your responsibility?”

“Something like that.”

“Can't you just lead a simple life?”

“In this world, who is content with mediocrity?” Ye Hao said with a light laugh.

Indeed.

Who is content with mediocrity?

Just then, Ye Hao's phone began to ring.

He glanced at the caller ID and answered the call.

“Zhang Lan.”

“Ye Hao, what have you been up to all week?”

“Is something the matter?”

“I was worried something had happened to you.”

“How could anything happen to me?”

“Then why have you only been replying to my texts and not answering my calls?”

Ye Hao paused, a realization dawning on him that it was probably Tang Pianpian who had been replying.

“There were some reasons.”

“Where are you right now?”

“I'm at home.”

“I'm coming over to see you.”

“I'm about to head out.”

“Okay.” Zhang Lan understood when to back off.

After ending the call with Zhang Lan, Ye Hao phoned Guo Xiu to reassure her of his safety.

Next, he returned a call to May.

“May.”

“Ye Hao, where are you?”

Detecting the alarm in May's voice, Ye Hao responded gravely, “What's happened?”

“The Miss is in trouble.”

“Where are you right now?”

“We're at the same sanatorium as before.”

“Come get me.”

One wouldn't be able to get into that sanatorium without the right connections.

After a brief hesitation, Ye Hao decided to call Lan Qingqing.

The phone rang ten times without an answer. Just as Ye Hao was about to give up, Lan Qingqing answered.

“Ye Hao.”

“Qingqing.”

“Don't call me Qingqing.”

“Sorry.”

“You don't have to apologize to me.”

Ye Hao fell silent.

“If there's nothing else, I'm going to hang up.”

“Where are you?”

“What else do you think I'd be doing at this hour besides keeping vigil for my father?”

“How are you holding up?” he inquired.

“Ye Hao, let's call it even on our past grievances. From now on, we're nothing to each other.” With that, Lan Qingqing ended the call.

A white-haired elder, watching Lan Qingqing weep inconsolably, sighed and said, “There's something I haven't told you.”

Lan Qingqing continued to sob, offering no reply.

“Your father wasn't killed by Ye Hao.”

“What?” Lan Qingqing abruptly looked up, seeking clarification.

“Your father was killed by Bai Ruo's palm strike; it was quite evident to us,” the elderly man stated earnestly. “The medical examiner found no trace of Ye Hao's fingerprints on your father's body.”

Lan Qingqing's eyes widened in shock.

It dawned on her that she had misjudged Ye Hao.

“Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?”

“The elders made that decision.”

Lan Qingqing paused, then quickly grasped the situation.

Had she been aware of this, she would have certainly forgiven Ye Hao. He could have been her ally, which would have thwarted the elders' attempts to maintain control over the family.

This realization made Lan Qingqing suspect the elders of having hidden agendas.

She tried to call Ye Hao, but to her astonishment, his line was constantly busy.

“Has he blocked my number?” Lan Qingqing murmured, feeling disheartened.
