Chapter 43 Send Mr. Ai Away?
Chief Engineer?
What does that mean?
It sounds pretty impressive.
Zhang Ye was caught off guard for a moment, after all, his understanding of civil engineering was limited to being a contractor and his laborers who carried bricks.
Ai Bing's gaze flickered with a hint of contempt as she looked at him.
This guy's words really can't be trusted.
He doesn't even know what a Chief Engineer is, yet he's here in the civil engineering department recruiting?
And when she thought about it carefully, what he had said was full of holes, calling it nonsense wouldn't be too much.
As for the situation outside, although she was trapped in the campus, she could roughly guess that it couldn't be much better than inside the campus, and it might even be more severe.
That was also one of the reasons she hadn't led these people out of the campus yet.n/ô/vel/b//jn dot c//om
In a life-and-death situation, someone is recruiting workers in a university?
Isn't that a joke?
Zhang Ye quickly regained his composure, and although he still didn't quite understand the value of a Chief Engineer, he roughly grasped a fact.
A Chief Engineer has got to be more impressive than a contractor, right?
That's good enough.
They can build a library, so building a wall to enclose the villa area shouldn't be too hard, should it?
But now it was obvious that the other party was looking down on him.
He must improve his rapport with her.
Thinking this, he immediately laughed in agreement, without denying:
"I'm an outsider, and I really don't understand much about civil engineering, so I wanted to find a few professionals to help."
"Ms. Ai, I've made a fool of myself."
As expected.
As soon as these words came out,
The contempt in Ai Bing's eyes visibly waned.
But the look she gave Zhang Ye was still full of doubt and wariness; clearly, she did not quite believe what he had said about coming to the school to recruit workers.
Zhang Ye did not offer any further explanations, instead, he straightforwardly took out his backpack.
Inside was a backpack full of food and purified water.
Sincerity is always the killer move.
In this world where tomorrow is not guaranteed, what could be more sincere than tangible goods?
The survivors in the dormitory building had their eyes glued to the backpack in an instant.
All that food was enough to fill their bellies for today.
Ai Bing was no exception.
The occasional faint rumbling from her stomach made her ears turn slightly red.
She kept telling herself that these were the sugar-coated bullets of capitalism, the bait this devil in front of her was throwing out.
Yet her gaze uncontrollably lingered on them.
So hungry.
She had come back empty-handed again today.
Most of the supplies in the building were prioritized for the school leaders.
Even though the food and water had been brought back from outside by her and Wang Yang at the risk of their lives, they still couldn't stand up to the inherent authority of the leaders.
A few dissatisfied students were all suppressed by Ai Bing and Wang Yang,
because the disaster would end sooner or later, and the government's rescue teams might come tomorrow.
By then, these leaders would still be the leaders.
Gurgle...
Ai Bing's stomach growled again.
Her aloof expression finally could not hold, and when she noticed Zhang Ye watching her, she subconsciously tried to shift her gaze away.
"Hungry, aren't you?"
"Haven't eaten well for several days, have you?"
Zhang Ye's expression had completely changed from before, looking at her with more care in his eyes.
There was even a touch of sympathy and apology.
Even the two zombies pressing down the vice-chancellor seemed to have let go of their hold without notice.
The chubby boy and the man who had tried to ambush Zhang Ye had returned to the crowd, staring at the food in the backpack and salivating.
He couldn't be apologizing to me, could he?
Ai Bing suddenly thought.
The woman's gaze softened considerably as she looked at Zhang Ye.
It seemed his character wasn't too bad, and with his strong abilities, if she could properly guide him, perhaps—
"What are you waiting for?"
"Go take some!"
She was thinking when someone suddenly pushed her from behind.
It was Vice Principal Cheng Ju.
At the same time, others were also whispering, urging her, "Ai Bing, hurry up!"
"The kid obviously fancies you, take the chance to get more!"
"We've all been starving for a whole day!"
"Move faster, that kid is a bit fickle, if he changes his mind it'll be too late!"
Ai Bing had no time to think as her body was already pushed forward by these people, and she found herself in front of Zhang Ye.
He was staring at her intently.
His demeanor was very amicable.
But the looks from the two female students beside him were a bit off, especially the one with long hair over her shoulders, who glared at her fiercely.
"What are you waiting for?"
"They can't wait any longer; take it and distribute it among your people," said Zhang Ye, apparently noticing her discomfort and speaking again.
Ai Bing cast her gaze downward, not daring to look at him, and just silently nodded her head, uttering a quiet "okay," then bent down to pick up the backpack on the ground and turned around to distribute the food to the crowd.
The group that had been tense just moments ago suddenly became rowdy.
"Mine!"
"This is mine!"
"Zhang, you're already so fat, can't you eat less?"
They snatched the backpack from Ai Bing's hands in a flash, and then it was chaos as they fought over it. In just a few minutes, all the food was gone.
A few of the boys, probably starved too, didn't even consider their teacher amidst their frenzy.
Initially, Ai Bing was taken aback and opened her mouth as if wanting to say something.
In the end, she remained silent.
Just watching from the side.
It wasn't until Wang Yang, who was gobbling down his food, suddenly realized his goddess hadn't eaten, that he hesitated for a moment before trying to pass her the half-eaten piece of bread from his mouth.
Ai Bing was about to decline when a bag of intact chocolates appeared in front of her.
"Here."
"For you."
Looking up, she saw Zhang Ye, looking at her with concern.
"Next time save some for yourself first."
"Understand?"
Ai Bing suddenly felt a strong sense of embarrassment, or perhaps cluelessness.
She never expected that one day she would be the one receiving advice, and from a young man the same age as her students at that.
Her instinct was to decline again, but her stomach protested once more with a growl.
"Why be modest?"
"Take it!"
Zhang Ye firmly pushed the chocolates into her hand.
He then pulled out more from another bag and eventually handed over the entire backpack to her.
Ai Bing glanced inside the backpack and sure enough, it was full of food, including high-calorie snacks like chocolates and energy bars.
These would be enough for her to last several days on her own.
"Thank you," she finally said with a smile.
However, she still shared half of what was in the backpack.
Zhang Ye did not stop her. Instead, Liu Qingqing chastised each person coming up for food:
"This is what Ye Zi is giving you, understand?"
"Come on, sing with me!"
"With a thankful heart~"
The two of them quietly laughed at the pained expression on the girl's face.
Night soon fell.
In the restroom.
"I don't agree!"
"Why should we send Teacher Ai out?"
"If it weren't for her, you people would've been eaten by those zombies outside by now!"
Wang Yang was furious, yet the boys who usually followed him didn't echo his anger but stood silently on Vice Principal Cheng Ju's side.
Send his goddess out to flatter that kid?
What a joke!
