Evolution: A Warlock's Rise To Power

Chapter 156: Consultant

Chapter 156: Consultant

Mr. Beneil took a seat across from Brax in his living room. "Work for you? Jenna was right, you do enjoy joking around."

"No jokes. From what your daughter told me, as president of Slumbering Dragon, you sought out investment opportunities and made the final call on what direction the company should take. World Dominators is looking for a person to advise in these areas."

"Hmpf." Mr. Beneil leaded back and locked eyes with Brax. "So because you are unable to take your own company seriously and do the work yourself, you want me to help you?"

Brax smiled off the insult. "I haven't heard you say no to the offer. You would only work when you wanted. I would pay you well. I know you are the perfect person for the job."

Mr. Beneil frowned. "You barely know me. If you want to schmooze me, then at least say something believable. Stop wasting my time with your joke company if you aren't going to take it seriously."

Brax stood up and went to his gamming room to retrieve a couple of things. He set a pair of binders on the table.

"Sure I don't know you like family, at least not yet. But that doesn't mean I am not aware of things."

Mr. Beneil picked up one of the binders and flipped it open. It was filled with a profile about him, what he did at his previous job, statistics for his investments. It was loaded with useful information about him and the Slumbering Dragon Group.

"Hmm, I guess you have done a bit of research." He said while setting down the first binder and picking up the second. "But I didn't come here to talk about a job."

"You came to warm me. Am I right?" Brax said, motioning for him to open the second binder.

Mr. Beneil flipped open the cover and found a similar profile on his father.

"It seems that you are aware that you have angered a vengeful man. I won't beat around the bush then. No one will be forcing my daughter into a marriage, that is something I can guarantee. I would much rather see her be happy with you, rather than being miserable with Thomas." Seeing Brax's smile, Mr. Beneil quickly said more. "But that doesn't mean that you are good enough for my daughter."

"Okay, okay." Brax said, still smiling. "I know that Elder Beneil will come at me, but at least for the next three days, he will be trapped in hell. We will just have to wait and see what happens."

"Don't take him lightly, he is most proud of his connections."

Brax nodded. "Have you considered my offer? But before that, what do you know about my company?"

"I know you make your profit from Evolution, like many other companies. And I happened to pull some strings so I could see the terms of your deal with Terracorp."

"Ha, ha, I hope one of the leading investors in my fortress is able to see the terms of the deal." Brax laughed.

Mr. Beneil didn't bat and eye when Brax revealed that he knew his father-in-law had been the investor with Terracorp.

"But my business isn't like the others who use Evolution to make money. The only money I have spent on the game, was taken from inside the game because my partners wanted cash instead of gold. I am not injecting crazy sums of money into the game to support others for a hope of a 10 or 20% profit. No, I make money in game, my company takes it out. I am now looking for something to do with this growing capital. That is where you come in. I have looked into three potential sectors that I thought could be promising. Would you mind taking a look and telling me what you think?"

Mr. Beneil took a folder that Brax handed him and started to flip through it.

"Hmm. Interesting. Can you tell me more about this second one?"

***

Jenna had eaten, showered and changed her cloths. Her father was still not back yet and Brax wasn't answering his text messages. Wondering what they were talking about, she had her driver take her to the other side of the neighborhood to where Brax lived.

She saw her father's car and walked towards the guest house it was parked in front of. She had heard Brax talk about where he lived but she had only been to the main house a single time. She nervously approached the door, worried that showing up unannounced would be awkward. After a second thought, she knew it would be fine, Brax would probably make a joke later about how it is strange for a wife to knock on her husband's front door instead of just coming in.

When she was about to reach for the doorbell, the door opened and her father was walking out backwards with a folder tucked under his arm.

"Yes, I am quite interested in the second idea. Let me look into a few things."

Jenna could hear Brax's voice coming from further inside.

"Sure, sure. Take your time to look into those changes that we came up with. Why don't you write up a proper proposal if the prospects look good. You can show it to me let's say Thursday, at three."

"That works, I should be able to get it done by then. So long, I want to get at it."

"Have a good rest of the morning." Brax said before the door was shut.

Mr. Beneil turned around and immediately jumped. "Ah! Goodness. What are you doing standing behind me like that Jenna? Are you trying to give me a heart attack?"

"Me, what are you doing? What happened?"

Mr. Beneil looked slightly embarrassed. "Umm, well, I got another job. No time to talk now. I will see you at home tonight." He said, giving his daughter a quick kiss on the head and then heading to his car.

Jenna didn't knock or ring the bell, she just opened the door and walked into Brax's house.

She caught him by surprise. Brax was cleaning up the papers on the coffee table. A smile bloomed across his face the moment he saw her.

"Hey wifey, your awesome husband just hired his first employee. Well not an employee, but a consultant, but it is still something." He nodded proudly.

"Can't you just let my dad be retired? My mom was so excited after she got over the shock of it."

"What? I thought you wanted me to hire him. You even told me he just quit his job."

"You dummy, since when does me telling you he quit his job mean that you should hire him?"

"Umm" Brax couldn't think of an excuse. "Alright, then I will fire him. Quit one job and fired from another in the same day. I am sure he will realize the universe is telling him to retire."

Jenna chuckled and shook her head. She knew that Brax wasn't going to fire him, and she didn't want him to either. Brax was just trying to force her to say it.

"Fine, it's alright, he seemed happy when he was on his way out. Maybe the impossible can really happen and you and him can become 'best buds'. Just like you said."

"Really?"

Jenna thought and then shook her head. "Nah, that will never happen."

"You're just teasing me."

"You like it." She snickered. "Come on, you said that we could go to the store today and you would help me pick out a new computer."

"Alright, but I really don't know much about the things. I am not some computer expert."

"Then it looks like we are in the same boat together. But it will be fun. Let's go." She said, grabbing his arm and dragging him out.
