Paragon of Death

Chapter 53

53 Chapter 52: A Crush!

Damon stood with the fierce aura surging from his body. While to normal people, it was just an aura but to supernatural beings, they could see the massive wolf standing over him meanwhile Lucy could see a bit more. Standing over the wolf was a person cloaked in darkness with the grim reaper scythe in its hands. It had two pairs of black angelic wings and a pair of blazing darkish purple eyes.

“What are you” Lucy muttered in fear as she fell to her knees with a terribly pale look.

“I already told you. I am more than just a werewolf... You do not stand a chance against me” Damon said those words slowly making each word sink into her heart, filling it with fear of the unknown.

Lucy felt like she was already marked for death and all that remained was just for Damon to give the order and she would be executed instantly.

How can a first year student have this much power?

Whoosh!

The fierce aura around Damon vanished and he returned to his normal self with an indifferent look on his face as he spoke.

“You are a good person, You couldn’t look me straight in the eye and lie, that is why the information you gave me was so jumbled up and scattered. You already made up your mind to lie but you just couldn’t follow through with it. Why?” Damon asked casually.

.....

“You didn’t seem like a bad person so I couldn’t bring myself to lie to you” Lucy said while avoiding eye contact. She was obviously too terrified and that could be detected in her shaky voice.

“Yet you still wanted to kill me. No, it was killing intent filled with reluctance but the killing intent was still there” Damon spoke as if he was speaking to himself.

“You would have done the same. Even if we joined forces and got rid of all the supernatural beasts in this academy, you wouldn’t hesitate to call the archmage through that ring of yours and have him end my life because that is what werewolves do. They kill all supernatural beings regardless.” Lucy said with reddened eyes.

Hearing this Damon sighed and turned his back on her. He had heard enough.

“Actually, I had no intentions of killing you after speaking with you. You are not a bad person and you haven’t given me a reason to... You were just imagining things” Damon said before walking away.

Lucy remained on her knees and watched Damon leave with emotional eyes.

Who would have thought her meeting with him would just end in such a chaotic way?

Why did she even want to kill him when he clearly had no ill intentions against her?

She couldn’t help but regret her actions but none of that mattered now because he was already gone.

.........................

Damon returned to his room and shut the door. His heart was beating heavily but his eyes remained calm like the ocean on a sunny day. He couldn’t deny the fact that Lucy is really attractive and he enjoyed his time with her but matters like this are far more complicated than it seems.

As she said, if it were any other werewolf that she came across, they probably would have been fighting by now. In fact, he wasn’t sure someone like Duke Hail will even give her the opportunity to speak before killing her off. He didn’t really blame her for her reaction.

What he couldn’t get past was her identity. She is a basilisk, a serpent like beast who specializes in poison. Thinking about it, the only affinity she has is the poison magic backing up his theory.

Anyway, the problem lay with her identity. While he didn’t know if she can transform into a serpent or not he felt disturbed by the thought of dating a snake.

Imagine kissing her only to realize he is kissing a snake.

The human form is obviously her primary form but the fact she can turn into something like that is, more than enough to kill his drive.

But that does not mean he didn’t feel something.

“Matters of the heart are far too complicated and risky. Why the hell is this harder to deal with than when I fought against the Vincent duo?” Damon muttered as he jumped on his bed.

He knew he had fallen for the girl but acting on his feelings is something else entirely. Damon kept rolling around his bed for minutes but then a foul stench reached his nose. His eyes glowed and his nose twitched at the same time!

All his prior thoughts vanished as his instincts took over and without thinking he jumped out through the window!

Thud!

Damon landed but before he could move a unique scent rushed into his nostrils. The scent brought with it, images of her face!

“Lucy!... why the hell is she out here?” Damon muttered with a frown before shooting forward!

Even if he didn’t want to get involved, now that he has spotted her scent he didn’t plan on backing down.

He raced forward while considering what next to do. If what Lucy said is true then this may be a trap. He had no doubt that this operation would be far more difficult to handle! He may be jumping into a very dangerous situation without knowing and the safest thing to do is call the arch mage.

But doing that meant he won’t get the reward and Lucy will most likely die!

“You are getting soft!” Damon said to himself with a bitter smile as he kept racing forward.

Soon he reached what seemed like a massive building and when he looked closer he realized it was the war mage’s first year hall.

Within the room was some intense supernatural energy surging dangerously but he couldn’t feel it, instead, he could only smell it but it was right in front of him.

Seeing this Damon frowned. If he is unable to sense this energy from this distance even the archmage won’t be able to tell what is going on!
