Chapter 33: The Death of Lin Feng

Even Chen Beiguo fell silent at the sight before him. He had been firmly convinced that this entire tragedy was a scheme orchestrated by Qin Xian to bring him down. 

That was why he had rushed back to the Divine Revelation Temple, activated the protection system, and prepared to retrieve all the data from the Temple. As long as he found any trace of Qin Xian’s involvement, he would take immediate action!

But now…

Looking at Lin Feng’s current state, even Chen Beiguo began to doubt himself. Could it really have been Lin Feng who caused all this? He had trusted his daughter’s judgment, believing that since she was willing to vouch for Lin Feng, he couldn’t be a bad person.

He had the recording crystal on him, which could prove that Qin Xian was behind it all. Yet he was completely paralyzed!

The truth was right before his eyes, but all he could do was watch as Qin Xian placed all the blame on him! The frustration, the despair, the rage—it all nearly drove Lin Feng to madness! 

He stared at Qin Xian with eyes full of venomous hatred, his expression twisted in fury. His bloodshot eyes, his trembling body, and the guttural growls that escaped his lips made him seem like a demon. 

The sight was so unsettling that those present couldn’t help but take a few steps back.

Qin Xian glanced at the crazed Lin Feng, his face expressionless. He could have killed Lin Feng long ago. The reason he had kept Lin Feng alive until now was not because Lin Feng was difficult to deal with, but because Lin Feng’s death at this moment, in this manner, would maximize his value.

Qin Xian intended to squeeze every last drop of value out of Lin Feng…

Qin Xian looked over at Speaker Yu Feng, who immediately caught on, his face twisting into an expression of anger. 

He loudly questioned, “Since this man’s foster father was a Void Follower, he should have been isolated and investigated according to the rules. How was he allowed to participate in the imperial examination?”

Qin Xian then turned to Chen Lingxi, his voice stern, “Miss Chen, I warned you long ago that this man was deeply connected to the Void Followers and needed to be thoroughly investigated. But you vouched for him as the Governor’s daughter, leading to today’s tragedy!”

Chen Lingxi’s face turned deathly pale at Qin Xian’s accusation, her body trembling, barely able to stand. Yet, she couldn’t utter a single word in response. 

Could it be… that she was truly wrong? Had Qin Xian been genuine in his investigation of the Void Followers all along? Was the Lin family really part of the Void Followers?

If Lin Feng had failed in his career transition, leading to an imbalance in his heart, and under the influence of his foster father, he had strayed onto the wrong path… It seemed plausible now.

People are like that. When Chen Lingxi believed in Lin Feng, she was determined to believe in him to the end. Any accusations against him felt like slander. But now, looking at Lin Feng’s appearance, it was clear he was a Void Follower. 

After all, as far as humanity knew, no one could turn a person into a Void Follower—unless they were a Void Follower to begin with.

Faced with the fact that Lin Feng was a Void Follower, Chen Lingxi couldn’t help but start to doubt herself. She looked at the Divine Revelation Temple, now nearly reduced to ruins, with countless corpses and the sound of anguished cries filling the air, and nearly fainted.

At that moment, Feng Jun, the head of the Donghai Province Surveillance Department, coldly said, “Miss Chen, we suspect that you are involved with the Void Followers! Please cooperate with our investigation immediately!”

Several inspectors stepped forward, preparing to take Chen Lingxi away. Everyone present, all influential figures in Donghai Province, knew the relationship between Chen Lingxi and Chen Beiguo. Yet, no one spoke up. 

Chen Lingxi had vouched for Lin Feng, and Lin Feng was a Void Follower, leading to the Void invasion and the resulting massacre of countless people. This was a catastrophe not seen in the human world for a thousand years!

Someone had to be held accountable for this. And Chen Lingxi, as the guarantor, was the prime candidate. It didn’t matter if she was the Governor’s daughter; even if she were the daughter of the Regent, she wouldn’t escape unscathed today!

Chen Lingxi looked at the grim-faced inspectors before her, her face as white as a sheet. She couldn’t help but glance at her father, Chen Beiguo. 

But Chen Beiguo’s face was dark, his anger barely contained. Even as a provincial governor, he couldn’t forcibly stop the Surveillance Department’s investigation! 

After all, the Surveillance Department was acting within their rights, and Chen Lingxi had indeed vouched for Lin Feng.

As Chen Lingxi was being taken away, the most furious and tormented person was not Chen Beiguo, but Lin Feng. The frustration and pain in Lin Feng’s heart were unbearable, and he couldn’t help but try to scream.
