Chen Beiguo’s expression darkened, and he shot a cold glare at Yu Feng. For a moment, Yu Feng’s face showed a hint of unease. After all, Chen Beiguo had held immense power in Donghai Province for twenty years and had built a formidable reputation. 

Despite being the nominal second-in-command, Yu Feng had always been suppressed by Chen Beiguo. If it weren’t for the support of the Qin family, Yu Feng might have long been reduced to a mere figurehead.

Yu Feng certainly harbored fears toward Chen Beiguo, but when he felt Qin Xian’s gaze from behind, he suddenly seemed to draw strength from it.

The crowd’s expressions shifted subtly. The Speaker had deftly changed the term “vouched” to “sheltered.” Although it was just a change of words, the implications were worlds apart! What a cunning old fox!

Chen Beiguo’s trusted aides exchanged glances but remained silent. The situation was clear to everyone. Given the events of the past few days, it was inevitable that Chen Beiguo would be implicated. 

His days as Governor were numbered. No one wanted to continue following him, lest they be dragged down as well. 

Such was the harsh reality. Just the day before, Chen Beiguo was the Governor, with countless people eager to pledge their loyalty. But today, with his downfall imminent, everyone was avoiding him like the plague.

Chen Beiguo took a deep breath and said in a low voice, “There are still many unanswered questions in this matter, and I will investigate them thoroughly.”

Yu Feng responded calmly, “I have already submitted an impeachment case against you to the Imperial Cardinal Council and the Imperial Assembly on behalf of the Provincial Assembly! According to Imperial law, you are suspended from all duties and should await the investigation team at home.”

The Speaker was not only the second most powerful figure in a province because he controlled the Provincial Assembly but also because he could impeach the Governor, suspending all their powers! Of course, choosing to impeach meant that the Speaker was fully breaking ties with the Governor…

Chen Beiguo’s eyes flashed with anger as he turned to glare at Qin Xian. Although Lin Feng was indeed a Void Follower, Chen Beiguo was convinced that Qin Xian was also involved! 

After all, these events had all occurred within a few days. No matter how powerful the Qin family was, they would have left some clues behind. As the Governor, Chen Beiguo was sure he could uncover something!

But with the Speaker’s impeachment, he would lose all authority. By the time the investigation team arrived, Qin Xian would have already erased all traces of his involvement! What a cunning plan by Qin Xian, leaving him with no chance to fight back!
